The famous ice hotel at Bâlea Lac will not be built this year, due to the too high temperatures in mid-December. The last time construction was stopped was during the pandemic.
“Due to the bad weather, this year the Ice Hotel cannot be built in optimal and safe conditions. We are very sorry for this situation”, forward the company to the personal site.
Nestled between the frozen peaks of Romania’s Făgăraș Mountains, this hotel, accessible only by cable car, is 2,000m above sea level.
Every winter, when Lake Bâlea freezes over, blocks of ice are cut to build cozy igloos, a beautiful restaurant and a magical church. Sculpted by hand by local craftsmen, the frozen waters of Bâlea Lake are transformed into the beautiful Ice Hotel complex.

Each year a different theme is addressed, and each room enjoys a special decoration, made up of statues and special sculptures that fascinated the guests of the location.
The first one was built 20 years ago. Last year, a night’s stay in the Ice Hotel cost between 100 and 150 euros, depending on the room.
