Deputy Prime Minister Oana Gheorghiu, after the incident in Galați: “The incident showed us Romania’s reduced capabilities to defend itself”

Deputy Prime Minister Oana Gheorghiu declared on Friday, May 29, that the drone incident in Galati “demonstrated Romania’s reduced capabilities to defend itself against this type of attack”.

“You are sleeping peacefully at home and suddenly a Russian drone hits your block. Fortunately, the incident in Galați did not result in human casualties, although people were injured.

Unfortunately, the incident showed us Romania’s limited capabilities to defend itself against this type of attack”, she said.

Oana Gheorghiu says that Romania has become vulnerable to attacks like the one in Galati because of delays and blockages related to the SAFE program for equipping the army.

“Mr Sorin Grindeanu said today that the Army urgently needs endowments with equipment. This is after Mr. Sorin Grindeanu also attacked at the CCR the ordinance regarding the SAFE armed endowment program.

Extremist propaganda AUR, SOS, POT and the other satellites have been manipulating lies about the SAFE Program for months. AUR notified the People’s Advocate also to block the SAFE program.

Mr. Călin Georgescu said that there is, in fact, no conflict in Ukraine: “Have you been there? Did you see it with your own eyes?”

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasizes that “some manipulate knowingly, others manipulate without realizing that they, in turn, are being manipulated.”

Oana Gheorghiu accuses some politicians of using the topic of defense for electoral purposes and of blocking or sabotaging the necessary measures to strengthen Romania’s security.

She appeals to the PSD, AUR and parties close to them to stop opposing the military endowment programs.

A drone crashed on Friday night on a block of flats in Galati, the incident being followed by an explosion and fire at an apartment located on the 10th floor of the building.

Two injured people received medical attention on the spot and then transported to the hospital. Later, about 70 people from that block were evacuated. The incident – the most serious incident on Romanian territory since the beginning of the war – triggered a maximum alert at the highest level, a CSAT meeting being called urgently.
