The interim Minister of the Environment, Diana Buzoianu, announces that she will support Dominic Fritz for the continuation of the USR president’s mandate. The statement comes in the context of the dispute generated by the amendments to the ANI Law, which directly targets the leader of the formation.
Buzoianu declared, on Tuesday, on Antena 3 CNN, that he will vote for the reconfirmation of Fritz in the political committee of the party scheduled for Wednesday.
“Dominic Fritz must remain USR president“, said the interim Minister of the Environment.
According to her, a withdrawal of Fritz in the current context would send the wrong message.
“The message cannot be that, in the face of abuse, we take a step back. In the face of abuse, we must fight to protect everyone’s fundamental rights,” said Buzoianu.
The minister also harshly criticized the situation generated by the decision of the Constitutional Court in the case of the ANI Law, arguing that the USR should not accept what it considers to be an attack on Dominic Fritz.
“It’s abuse without limits what’s happening at the moment”said Diana Buzoianu.
The Constitutional Court established on Monday that the provision of the ANI Law, which provides for the legal termination of public office or dignity 30 days after the entry into force of the law, is constitutional, in the case of persons definitively declared to be in conflict of interest.
The amendment, superseded the “Fritz Amendment”, was introduced by the PSD and may affect the leader of the USR. The formation notified the CCR after the adoption of the law by the Parliament.
More than 120 people would be affected by this provision.
The Court’s decision also generated reactions from President Nicușor Dan and Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan.
The head of state said on Tuesday that he is not convinced by the arguments that were the basis of the CCR decision and that he is waiting for the publication of the reasons.
For his part, Ilie Bolojan drew attention to the risk that changing the rules for an individual case would turn the legislation into an instrument of “political vendetta”. The Prime Minister also requested the publication of the Court’s reasoning as quickly as possible, so that the Parliament could intervene on the law before the deadline of August 31, relevant for the fulfillment of a milestone in the PNRR.
