Serbian world number one Novak Djokovic will not play in the ATP tournament in Miami, American journalist Sasha Ozmo reported on the social network X.

The competition will take place between March 20-31.

Djokovic last played at the Miami tournament in 2019. The Serbian tennis player missed the competitions due to the coronavirus restrictions that were in place in the United States. The athlete refused to be vaccinated against Covid.

Earlier, the tennis player played in a tournament in American Indian Wells for the first time in five years. The Serbian lost to Italian Luca Nardi in the third round match.

Djokovic, 36, is the world No. 1 with 98 ATP tour wins, including 24 Grand Slam titles, a men's singles record. The athlete is a bronze medalist at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and winner of the Davis Cup (2010).

The Miami tournament belongs to the Masters category, with only the Grand Slam tournaments and the ATP Finals being more prestigious. Competitions are held on a hard surface.

The current winner of the competition is Russian Daniil Medvedev.
