Historical moment for Romanian sport: Octavian Morariu, chosen in the Executive Committee

Octavian Morariu, former chairman of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee (COSR), was elected on Thursday in the CIO Executive Committee, within the 144th session of the International Olympic Committee, which takes place in Costa Navarino (Greece).

Octavian Morariu represents Romania at CIO

For the first time after 1986, Romania has a new member in the CIO Executive Committee, notes COSR on its Facebook page. Morariu, is a member of the CIU for Romania since 2013, has been chosen with 53 votes for a 4 -year term in the board of the International Olympic Committee.

The last Romanian presence in the CIO Executive Committee was related to Alexandru Șiperco. CIO member for Romania between 1955 and 1998, Șiperco was part of the CIO Executive Committee between 1979-1986, from different positions, member elected and then as Vice President.

Morariu headed the CIO evaluation commission to host the winter Olympic Games from 2019 to 2023.
