How did education become a national security issue

The Minister of Education and Research, Daniel David, presented the analysis-diagnosis regarding the Romanian education system, announced from the beginning of the year, stressing that functional illiteracy and school dropout have reached alarming levels and considering that we can talk about a national security problem.

Reforming the education system will only be done with well -trained teachers: Pixabay

For half the children of the country the state is playing, said the Minister of Education, Daniel David, in the presentation of the “Diagnostic Report of Education and Research in Romania. The present achievements and implications for new reforms in the field (QX report) ”, supporting its statement with figures.

Romania in 100 people ”, Which means, according to the demographic structure, 20 children and 80 adults, does not look far as we would like when it comes to education. Four of the 20 children are lost in the education system, show the figures presented, and 5/6 are in the area of functional illiteracy. Only 10-11 have minimal skills. When we talk about adults, out of 80 only 13 have higher education (ie 16%, given that the European average is about 30%). 25% of adults are in the area of functional illiteracy, but in total 38% are found in the area of functional illiteracy and risk to functional illiteracy.

Too high graduates does not effectively assimilate the key skills in relation to the content of the programs and/or in relation to the use of the content of programs in daily life, which becomes a risk of national security. (…) Functional illiteracy in mathematics (cash) increases from 25% to primary classes, to 36% in gymnasium classes and reaches up to 46% at high school “, show the report.

If we look at what the school produces, Minister Daniel David said, it is obvious that in a few years the reality will be even harder. Most loaded curriculum, unattractive manuals, inefficient teaching / learning methods, particular meditations that can greatly affect the education process, inefficient integration of children with special educational requirements (CES) and increased problems are identified for which solutions will soon be presented.

“These teachers are prepared in a Romanian university system that is beyond the place of 1,000 people”

How to threaten the bad education for national security, we tried to understand by talking to a security expert. Hari Bucur-Marcu, an international expert in national defense policies, explained that we are talking euphemistically about national security, this being a legal concept, if we analyze the legislation.

“From this point of view, whatever can use the metaphor as it likes. The reality is that there has been and there is an aggression on the Romanian people through the national education system. Why? Because this system has been compromised with intent, for 35 years. At least once a year a reform was made in the pre -university education Class, from class I or preparatory to class XII, to the baccalaureate, these teachers are prepared in a Romanian university system that is beyond the place of 1,000 people ”said Bucur-Marcu.

There is no source of credible educators, professionals who will do national education in Romania, and the problem posed again on the table, during this period, by the Minister of Education Daniel David is well-known, but avoided throughout the mandates of President Iohannis, or rather covered with the two “born” laws.

At the process of compromising the education he contributed, mentions the expert Hari Bucur-Marcu, including a prestigious institution, the Romanian Academy.

“We have the Romanian Academy, which in turn enters this mechanism of compromise of national education, starting from writing the language, which would be the preparation of the Romanian Academy, but it is not respected by everyone, (…) and ending with the fact that in the Academy there comes all kinds of people without true work, without serious contributions, who have undeniable academic merits ”notes the expert.

Those who fundamentally compromised the education were the Communists, who allocated a quarter of subjects for communist ideology, establishing political-ideological education, and after 1989, says Bucur-Marcu, “No one came to replace those subjects with materials of democratic citizen education.”

It is not known today what is the role of the citizen as a member of the collective sovereign. In fact, we are few who speak of the sovereign people as such, which is why it is possible to appear all kinds of ideological currents in which the terms are confiscated, such as sovereignism ”, shows the expert.

That it is necessary for the education system to produce good citizens nobody, on the other hand, can question.

If we have to defend our homeland, we cannot do it with unexpected people, in any form. And not only from the point of view of motivation to go to war to defend your homeland, but especially to be able to operate with the five environments in which the fighting actions are going, between two are absolute novelty for us – the cyber environment and the cosmic environment. Cosmic space has become an environment of fighter actions. It is recognized as such by NATO, they no longer speak by Americans, who also have a new category of armed forces, which are the cosmic forces, whose commander has now been empowered to deal with that gold umbrella, Golden Dome. (…). From this point of view we can talk about education as a national security component, not even a problem or national security threat, but a component of the entire defense system of the country and of public order, without any doubt ”, completed the expert.

“Structural reforms can happen from one cycle to another, but the effects are seen in the very long term”

In order to straighten all the evil done, it must be walked in organized areas as true feuds, without the intervention methods stop here. Even so, things will not change overnight.

Structural reforms in national education can happen from one cycle to another, but the effects are very long. You realize that we have to walk in the university environment. Without our teachers prepared by us in the Romanian universities we cannot make any reform in education. Or they are compromised, starting from the President of the Rector Council, or what function does, and what the employer is plagiarism in higher education. (…) We have this problem. We need a few years for good years, at least 3 years for college, to reform, by inviting foreign teachers, by co -opting international programs to be carried out in Romania, and so on. In 5 years we could say that we begin to have a new body of teachers who are prepared ”the expert advanced a term in which things could start moving.

It will be necessary to refurbish the existing body of teachers who today “teach what they know, not what they need to children“And especially which “I teach as they know, that is, with resistance to new, with resistance to preparation for the future, with all kinds of improvisations”, added Bucur-Marcu.

“Educating educators is the first problem to be solved. Educating educators”, emphasized the expert. In the discussion it is not only the interest of the student, but also of the Romanian citizen in training throughout his life, because adapting to the new requirements of the society will impose a permanent update of knowledge.

“We are in the post-industrial era. 70% of the workforce is not busy in the industry. Maybe 75% is not busy in the industry, so it does not need those skills, between quotes, to work in the team, to work in the factory, to exchanges, to work under a master who coordinates and who is more and so on. It is emphasized.Hari Bucur-Marcu also pointed out.

Even without a programmatic document imposing targets, although there are such objectives, the percentage of citizens involved in learning throughout life will increase, on the other hand, naturally in the coming years as an adaptation to the new realities of the labor market, the expert believes.
