On Monday, April 29, at the “IL Caragiale” National Theater in Bucharest, the 18th edition of the Gopo Awards Gala took place, during which the performances recorded by Romanian cinema in recent years were celebrated. Libertate is the big winner of the Gopo trophy for Best Film.

Actors Victor Rebengiuc, Mariana Mihuț, Andreea Vasile, Olimpia Melinte, Denis Hanganu, Cătălina Grama, Paul Ipate, Oana Pellea, Marius Manole, Emilian Oprea, Maria Obretin, Adrian Văncică, Bogdan Dumitrache, Alexandru Ion directors Emanuel Pârvu, Tudor Giurgiu, Tudor D. Popescu, Cristian Pascariu and film critic Irina Margareta Nistor were among the personalities who accepted the invitation to participate in the Gopo Awards ceremony, presented for the first time by the stand-up comedy actor, Claudiu Teohari (Teo).
Libertate, directed by Tudor Giurgiu and produced by Libra Films, was the big winner of the evening, obtaining the trophy for Best Film following the voting process in which more than 800 professionals from the domestic film world participated. Libertate obtained 9 other trophies.
The award for Best Actress in a Leading Role, offered by Aqua Carpatica, went to Ilinca Manolache for her role in the feature film Don't Expect Too Much from the End of the World.
The award for Best Director, offered by Banca Transilvania, went to Tudor Giurgiu for the film Libertate.

The award for Best Actor in a leading role, offered by Promenada Mall Bucharest, went to Alex Calangiu, the protagonist of the film Liberty (dir. Tudor Giurgiu).
Maria Popistașu was awarded the Best Supporting Actress Award for her role in Taximetristi (dir.Bogdan Theodor Olteanu), and Iulian Postelnicu was awarded the Best Supporting Actor Award for her role in Freedom.
The award for Best Screenplay, offered by Dacin Sara, went to two of the nominated films this year. Cecilia Ștefănescu and Tudor Giurgiu for the film Freedom and Radu Jude for the film Don't expect too much from the end of the world.
Between Revolutions, directed by Vlad Petri, was designated Best Documentary.
The award for Young Hope presented by Conceptual Lab by Theo Nissim was awarded to Niko Becker for the role of Dumitru in the film Spre Nord. The best picture award went to George Chiper-Lillemark for North. Viorica Petrovici won the Costume Award, offered by Cellini, and Vali Ighigheanu won the Award for the best sets, for the feature film Freedom.
In the short film category, the award was given to the film Where the boats don't reach, directed by Vlad Buzăianu. In the Best European Film category, the votes of cinematographers and film critics went to Anatomia une une pùșiri / Anatomie d'une chute (dir. Justine Triet, France), distributed by Voodoo Films, and the Audience Award, for the production with the biggest success at the box office was awarded to the film Miami Bici 2 (dir. Jesús del Cerro).
One of the most valuable actresses in Romania, Rodica Mandache, was honored at the Gala with the Gopo Lifetime Achievement Award, offered by Apa Nova – a Veolia company. The artist Dan Nuțu was also awarded the Prize for the Whole Activity, offered by the Bucharest City Hall through ArCub, and the Special Prize was awarded to the stuntman Adrian Ștefănescu.
The Gopo Awards Gala was marked by emotional moments with the presence of the artist Lucia, who gave a recital that marked the In memoriam moment of the evening and the artist Eva Kiss, who performed the song Liberty. The bands Delta per obraz and 10 Prăjini also took the stage.
The recording of the 2024 Gopo Awards Gala will be broadcast on May 1, from 22:30, on PRO Cinema.
