Nicușor Dan asks the magistrates to write to him directly about the problems in the system: “I will read it personally / There is a need for commitment from within the profession”

President Nicușor Dan announces that he is working on a report on the problems in the justice system and makes a public appeal to the magistrates to write directly to him about the difficulties within. However, he emphasizes that, beyond political support, commitment from within the profession is needed for things to really change.

The president emphasized in a message published on Facebook that the reduction of the anti-corruption fight has political influence.

“I watched the Recorder documentary about the justice system head-to-tail. The easiest thing is to revolt, once again, and throw generic blame. It’s even harder to solve the problems in the justice system. First of all, congratulations to the filmmakers, who bring important issues into the public debate, in a way that is accessible to the public. Secondly, I do not want to excuse the political in any way. The fact that the anti-corruption fight has shrunk dramatically has political implications. The appointments of chief prosecutors were political. Society has been talking about problems in justice for a long time without seeing, at the level of the Ministry of Justice, the will to really get into them”, the president conveyed.

According to the head of state, the cases presented in the journalistic investigation must be investigated:

“But the solution to the problems raised is still within the justice system. The cases presented must be investigated and especially the recurrence of these cases must be investigated. And the guilty persons must be punished, but also by the justice system, and based on evidence. Because the Recorder material also presents facts, which are clear, but also opinions, which must be proven. Who collects the evidence and who makes the referrals? Why do we not yet have a report from within the justice system, although these things have been talked about for a long time time? How many complaints were made from within the justice system about the facts we are talking about? How many legal actions were made about the facts we are talking about?”

He directed the magistrates to write to him directly about the problems encountered.

“Why are there only three active magistrates who have agreed to speak openly with reporters? Why has no one contested Lia Savonea for the leadership of the High Court? As I said, we have started working on a report with data on the problems in the justice system. We are talking to the magistrates. I invite all the magistrates to write to me directly about the problems they encounter and I assure them that I will personally read what they send me. But there also needs to be a commitment within I am convinced that the great majority of magistrates are serious people, it is their responsibility, beyond the current cases, to get involved in solving the problems of their profession.“, the president also sent.
