Reorganization analysis in parties and calculations for the new government. The risk of the Gold Party in Parliament

After the presidential elections, the need for a new executive brings even more complicated calculations for the four pro-European parties nominated by the winner of the presidential elections Nicușor Dan. On the other side, remaining in the opposition leadership, gold could strengthen its forces.

For Nicușor Dan the difference in the second round of the presidential elections compared to the score obtained in the first round is about 4 million voters. Now the first mission he has is the formation of a pro-European government, as promised to those who gave him the vote, including four games in government.

But if it is left alone in the opposition, Gold will be the main force in Parliament in front of the government.

Changes in large parties

On the verge of negotiations for the new Executive, the parties entered a reorganization process. PNL is the only one who started the winter reform, by resigning the old leadership after the failure of last year’s presidents, following Ilie Bolojan to return to the interim management of the formation after the interim from Cotroceni. In the USR the reorganization is forced by the resignation of the former chief Elena Lasconi, after losing the support of the formation right in the middle of the elections. At the top of the party the biggest chances have Dominic Fritz.

The change is heard from the PSD, but not as loud. The Social Democrats decided to take over the interim management by the first vice-president Sorin Grindeanu, after Marcel Ciolacu also resigned from the party, but did not change the entire management team as several members required.

The variants of the pro-European executive

The main working variant for the formation of the future government includes PNL, USR, UDMR and PSD, with the liberal Ilie Bolojan as prime minister, with whom Nicușor Dan discussed from the first day after the results obtained. The variant would leave the party led by George Simion in the foreground.

Another variant is the lack of PSD from the government. At the beginning of the month, Marcel Ciolacu resigned from the position of prime minister, after the PSD voted to leave the government. Now, with Grindeanu interim in leadership, the party retains its option to stay in the opposition, to decide after consultations, which cannot take place earlier than May 26, that is, the day when the new president would be invested. Expressing his wish for PSD to come into a pro-Western government, even Nicușor Dan stressed that “It takes an internal clarification at the PSD ”.

The mission now is not a new one. The four parties negotiated an executive in December. Then USR remained outside the calculations. Now the party requires the reduction of the operating expenses of the Romanian state, transparency and competence. “We will not be able to be part of a government who do not have credible people at the forefront, who do not assume real reforms and who do not assume to direct the budget situation of Romania. Politics must deliver for people – all over the country and beyond the border. And that has not succeeded so far. USR will enter a government that will succeed these things ”, explained Ionuț Mosteanu, a USR spokesman.

“I think we will be aware again how powerful the sovereignist in Romania is actually”- George Jiglău, political schedule

The political scientist George Jiglău reminds of the failed attempt of the four political formations to reach an agreement on a pro-European government in winter. Then the major differences between the formations spoke their word, a context in which they could be found again.

“If something does not change radically in the way they interact with each other, as parties, inside the parties, that there are conflicts, not only between parties, and ultimately this will be transposed in a more serious and responsible way, and much better to communicate to the public, things will not look very different.”explains the politicalologist George Jiglău.

At the same time, according to the political scientist, the situation from the presidential elections, in which PNL and PSD have failed to take their candidate twice in round II, is also due to the erosion of the last years in government, which can be repeated: “Anyone who is in government during this period will have suffering, inevitably. Something will have to happen in the way of governing, making politics and communicating these parties. (…) I inevitably think an erosion will appear.”.

Increasing the sovereign current

In the context, the Gold Party remained the peak of the opposition, after succeeding and taking its candidate in the second round of the presidential elections, has the space and chances to increase.

“They have a chance and they have time to produce other figures, especially if they remain in opposition. (…) I see the premises for the current parties to lose weight and this can only increase the sovereign current. Which was more professional, he was structured, he created enough anchor in the territory, he made enough land in the country, so he builds that power in the past PSD and which he does not have.explains George Jiglău.
