Singer Lizzo's shock announcement after being sued by her female dancers: 'I'm fed up'

American singer Lizzo, 35, made an announcement that took her fans by surprise. The artist said in an Instagram post that she quit the music industry because she was tired of being ridiculed on the internet for her appearance and character, reports Sky News.

The star, whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, did not make it clear what she was referring to or what led to the statement.

However, the announcement comes a day after a lawyer representing the three former dancers who sued Lizzo last August said it was “shy” the fact that the artist headlined a Radio City fundraiser for US President Joe Biden “against the background of such serious allegations”.

I'm tired of being dragged down by everyone in my life and on the internet. All I want is to make music, make people happy and help the world be a little better than I found it. But I'm starting to feel that the world doesn't want me.

I am constantly dealing with lies being told about myself to gain power and views…being the target of jokes every time because of the way I look.

My character is being dismantled by people who don't know me and don't respect my name“, the relevant post states.

In August 2023, Lizzo was sued by former dancers Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez, who accused her of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment.

At the time, the pop star described the allegations as “hard to bear and extremely disappointing“, adding that the claims are “as unreliable as they seem“.

On Thursday, Lizzo was in attendance at Radio City Music Hall in New York for a fundraiser for the US President, which Mindy Kaling hosted.
