The Romanian team, exceptional results at the Balkan Mathematical Olympiad for Juniors: one gold and five silver medals. Who are the outstanding students

Romanian students constantly shine and achieve top results in international mathematics competitions. They amply demonstrated it at this month’s Balkan Junior Mathematics Olympiad, with the Romanian team achieving exceptional results.

Between June 25-29, 2024, in Antalya, Turkey, the 28th edition of the Balkan Junior Mathematics Olympiad – JBMO was held, where students from 22 countries participated.

The important competition was attended by teams consisting of six students each from Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus, Greece, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia and Turkey – official member countries of the competition, as well as teams from Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Croatia, France, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan – invited countries. As the host country, Turkey could participate with one more team (Turkey B), with guest status.

The six participating Romanian students obtained exceptional results: one gold medal and five silver medals.

The gold medal was obtained by Tudor Chelaru, 7th grade, from the “Emil Racoviță” National College in Iasi.

The five silver medals were obtained by David Mathe, 8th grade, “Dacia” Secondary School, Târgu Mureș; Cezar-Luca Mironov, 9th grade, International Informatics High School, Bucharest; Ilinca-Rucsandra Radu, 7th grade, Iasi National College; Rareș Drăgușanu, 8th grade, International Informatics High School, Bucharest and Gabriel-Cristian Vergelea, 8th grade, “Spectrum” Constanța High School

The Romanian team was led by professors Marius Perianu, “Ion Minulescu” National College, Slatina – leader, Cristian-Teodor Mangra, “Tudor Vianu” National College, Bucharest – deputy leader.

With the support of the Romanian Society of Mathematical Sciences, Professor Vladimir Cerbu from the “Ștefan cel Mare” National Military College from Campulung Moldovenesc accompanied the Romanian delegation as observer A.
