It was learned how boxing champion Ricky Hatton, aged 46, died on September 14. The death was shrouded in mystery. Only now has the cause of death been known.
Hatton had his whole life ahead of him
According to sources from the investigation, Hatton was found hanged by his manager, who arrived at the former champion’s residence in the morning, writes the British press.
The star died at his £1.7m mansion in Hyde, Greater Manchester. The body was found by his manager and longtime friend, Paul Speak.
Hatton was last seen alive by the family on September 12. He lived alone and did not attend an event he was expected to attend the next day.
He had to go to the airport
On the morning of September 14, Speak arrived at the home to take Hatton to Manchester Airport for a flight to Dubai. But the manager found him with a rope around his neck.
“The lights weren’t on, which I thought was odd. I thought he slept too much. I had the keys to the house. I heard music from upstairs so I went upstairs”, said Speak, who, in shock at the sight of the body, called the Police and the Ambulance.
Speak appreciates in the interview that Hatton was “in very good condition” before he died and was preparing to take his daughters to an Oasis concert the following week, then go to Thailand for a boxing and Christmas themed event in Tenerife. “I strongly believe he didn’t mean to do it… He had everything to live for“, he told Boxing News.
