Two bird flu outbreaks have set a county on fire. Harsh bans by veterinary inspectors, who also banned fishing

At the moment, two cases of avian influenza in winter swans are active in Bacău county, discovered on the Lilieci (Hemeiuș) and Lespezi (Gârleni) reservoirs.

As for swine fever, there are no cases in households or farms. Instead, wild boars were decimated by African swine fever, 180 wild boars killed by the disease being found in Bacău county.

Following the two outbreaks of avian influenza, the veterinary inspectors of the Veterinary Sanitary and Food Safety Directorate (DSVSA) Bacău imposed total prohibitions regarding birds (sale, transport) and prohibited fishing on lakes and hunting wild birds.

Veterinarians prohibited the organization of fairs, markets and exhibitions where domestic birds are sold, as well as any activities of collecting and selling domestic birds or other captive birds.

The movement of domestic birds or other captive birds from the non-professional holdings where they are raised is prohibited. Meat and poultry products as well as eggs for consumption from non-professional holdings will be thermally treated before being given for human consumption.

The transport or spreading of unprocessed excrement outside non-professional holdings, where birds are raised, is prohibited until the sanitary and veterinary restriction measures are lifted

“In the infected area, in the area of ​​Lilieci and Lespezi reservoirs but also in the area of ​​the other hydrotechnical reservoirs downstream of them, sports and/or recreational activities as well as commercial fishing will be prohibited, in order to limit contact between wild birds and the population human. Activities will be carried out dit's patrolling, daily, for the implementation and control of this measure and warning panels will be placed by ULS in the area of ​​Lilieci, Bacău I and II and Galbeni lakes, respectively informing the population through mass media”states the Veterinary Sanitary and Food Safety Directorate (DSVSA) Bacău.

At the same time, the veterinary inspectors have forbidden the hunting of wild birds or their capture, and feeding is allowed only to those who manage the hunting funds. Moreover, they demand the separation in households of ducks and geese from the rest of the domestic birds. It is requested to avoid the rearing of domestic birds in the open air, “they must be kept closed in specially arranged accommodation spaces, the feeding and watering of the birds will be carried out in a covered area to which wild birds cannot access”, say the veterinarians.
