The former Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, said on Tuesday, May 12, about the case of the dead baby at the Polizu Maternity Hospital that he received a notification about this case when he was still a minister, specifying that he then sent the control body and the State Sanitary Inspection.
“I know the situation of this case because it was brought to my attention at the Ministry of Health when I was still a minister. I sent the Control Body and the State Sanitary Inspection, but following the findings, being a medical case with medical implications, it was redirected and I requested the opinion of the Romanian Medical College.
It is not a problem of an administrative nature, being a purely medical situation, the College of Physicians will have to pronounce itself following the investigation they are doing”, said the former Minister of Health to journalists at the Parliament.
He adds that “the State Sanitary Inspection was sent to check if the microbiological samples are respected and if the conduct and protocol for reducing nosocomial infections was respected”.
Also on Tuesday, the Ministry of Health sent in a statement that the health inspectors from the Bucharest Public Health Directorate carried out a check, within the limits of their powers, at the Polizu Maternity Hospital in the Capital, in the context of the case regarding the deceased premature newborn.
“During the checks, the clinical observation sheets (FOCG) of the newborn were analyzed, as well as the documents certifying the performance of cleaning and disinfection operations, the biocidal products used, the nosocomial infection declaration form (IAAM), as well as the patient screening protocol”the ministry adds.
Following the checks, the institution specifies that no non-conformities were found regarding the hygienic-sanitary conditions, the way to use biocidal products, the self-control plan, compliance with the Screening Protocol for the verified patient, the preparation of the IAAM form and its declaration.
“At the same time, the mother-newborn clinical observation sheet (FOCG) was checked, and it was found that the admission screening was not performed, according to the Protocol in force. For this non-compliance, a contraventional sanction was applied to the attending physician, in accordance with the provisions of GD no. 857/2011, art. 32, letter k), in the amount of 2,000 lei.”
We remind you that the baby was born prematurely, at the Polizu Maternity Hospital, in January, and died on March 17.
The parents say their newborn contracted a hospital-acquired infection while in the hospital, and the medical staff allegedly abandoned him in agony. In the complaints submitted to the authorities, the family attached several shocking photos from the last days of the little one’s life.
