“Every day, 50 insured tourists benefited, on average, from compensation based on travel insurance – for unforeseen situations that could otherwise have seriously affected their personal budget. For example, the highest compensation paid in the first semester of this year based on travel insurance was 50,000 euros”UNSAR data shows.
The amount was intended to restore the health of a tourist who suffered an accident outside the country, writes News.
“Travel insurance is a real support when the health or safety of each of us is put at risk”said Alexandru Ciuncan, president & general director of UNSAR.
At the same time, the total value of the 10 largest compensations paid exceeded 400,000 euros (about 2 million lei), which means an average of more than 40,000 euros (about 206,000 lei) for each claim file.
From this Top 10, five compensations were granted for medical expenses generated by illnesses, four for accidents, and one concerned the civil liability of the tourist towards a third person. These situations illustrate the diversity of risks that tourists can face and the importance of travel insurance that provides complete and prompt protection.
“When accidents or illnesses occur far from home, travel insurance makes the difference between a manageable incident and an often unbearable financial burden”stated Alina Bărbulescu, general insurance section coordinator within UNSAR.
Founded in 1994, UNSAR – the National Union of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies from Romania represents 21 profile companies. They have a share of over 90% of the local insurance market.
