Endometriosis is one of the most complex gynecological conditions, affecting approx 190 million women worldwide and 500,000 women in Romania, of which about 10% develop severe forms of the disease, according to the data World Health Organization.
Although it has a major impact on the quality of life, endometriosis is often diagnosed late, in some cases even after ten years, due to the symptoms being confused with regular menstrual pain and the small number of specialists trained in the management of this condition.
To bring expertise in the surgical treatment of endometriosis closer to patients,
Queen Mary Health Network announce expansion Endo Institute at the national levelthrough the establishment of twooh us surgical centers dedicated to the treatment of endometriosis in Ponderas Academic Hospital, from Bucharest
and in Queen Mary Hospital Cluj, in addition to the existing one, from the Queen Maria Timișoara Hospital. The Endo Institute network, founded in 2015 in Timișoara, consisting of multidisciplinary centers for monitoring and treatment of endometriosis, is a landmark in medicine dedicated to women in Romania, operating according to well-established protocols and accredited international standards,
A complex disease, often invisible
Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus – on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, bladder, intestines or even the diaphragm. Chronic pelvic pain, painful periods, digestive disorders or difficulty getting pregnant are just some of the manifestations of a disease that can profoundly affect everyday life.
Doctors call it “the cancer that doesn’t kill” precisely because of the suffering it causes and the way it marks the lives of affected women. In the absence of a correct diagnosis and adequate treatment, endometriosis can produce severe complications, affecting fertility, kidney or digestive function.
Expanding the Endo Institute – a national infrastructure for the treatment of endometriosis
If until recently complex surgical interventions were performed only at Timisoarawhere the first Endo Institute surgical center was founded, expanding the network in Bucharest and Cluj allows women from all over the country to have access to minimally invasive surgical treatments, laparoscopic or robotically assisted with the robot da Vinci.
Behind the three surgical centers are some of the most experienced teams in Romania in the treatment of endometriosis.
Patients can benefit from such consultations and investigations by endometriosis specialists and a complete case evaluation within Endo Board – a multidisciplinary committee made up of gynecologists, imagers, surgeons, endocrinologists, fertility specialists and urologists who analyze each patient to establish the most effective therapeutic plan adapted to the age and stage of the disease.

Robotic surgery – millimeter precision for complex cases
In the treatment of endometriosis, robotically assisted minimally invasive surgery became the international standard. The system da Vinciused in the 3 Endo Institute centers in Timișoara, Bucharest and Cluj, offers a HD three-dimensional viewa precision of movement superior to the human hand and access to hard-to-reach areas. This technology allows complete excision of the lesionsreducing the risk of recurrence, intraoperative bleeding and length of hospital stay.
The interventions are carried out by internationally certified surgeons in the use of the robotic system, in collaboration with urologists, general surgeons and pain therapy specialists.
National network of diagnosis and care for women with endometriosis
In addition to the three surgical centers, the Endo Institute offers consultations and investigations specialized in Iasi, Constanta, Târgu Mureș and Craiovafacilitating patients’ access to early diagnosis and integrated treatments.
Through this expansion, Queen Mary creates a national medical infrastructure dedicated to endometriosiscomparable to the networks of excellence in Europe or the United States of America, offering women in Romania the chance for correct, safe and complete care – close to home.
