Xiaomi Romania and the CONCORDIA Humanitarian Organization have joined forces in a partnership that aims to transform the lives of over a hundred children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Through the “Formal and non-formal educational support for children in difficulty/vulnerable conditions” project, these children receive a real chance for a better future, through access to quality education and personalized support.
Education is the key to unlocking the potential of each individual. It is a powerful tool that can break the cycle of poverty and open doors to new opportunities. However, children from disadvantaged backgrounds often face significant barriers in accessing quality education. Lack of financial resources, teaching materials or an adequate learning environment can prevent these children from reaching their full potential.
Through this partnership, Xiaomi and CONCORDIA aim to give children from underprivileged communities the chance to learn and develop in a safe and stimulating environment. Through the CONCORDIA day centers in Odobești and Ploiești, children benefit from a varied range of educational, social and psychological activities.
The organization provides children with support for long-term educational development so that they cover basic needs and more. Educational sessions are held weekly and help students improve their academic performance. Moreover, the children part of this program have access to psychological and professional counseling that gives them the necessary tools to face everyday challenges, but also to build a positive self-image.
Technology that catalyzes education
An essential aspect of this project, which benefits 120 children between the ages of 6 and 15, is access to technology. Thus, Xiaomi provides the necessary IT&C equipment to enable children to continue their studies and explore the digital world. Through the workshops organized by the company together with CONCORDIA, children develop digital skills useful throughout their lives.
Supporting children from disadvantaged backgrounds is an investment in our future. Through education, we give these children the chance to become active and responsible citizens, able to contribute to the development of the community and the country.
According to Eurostat, in Romania, 4 out of 10 children live in poverty and social exclusion. Many of them do not participate in extracurricular activities, and most rural teenagers have not discovered their passions. Despite the fact that free public education is guaranteed by law, parents often face school-related expenses such as clothing, school materials, textbooks and IT&C products for online access to education.
According to EU statistics, 41.5% of children in Romania are at risk of poverty and social exclusion, significantly exceeding the EU average of 24.2%. Poverty has a profound impact on the positive development of each child, affecting access to and participation in education, employability and the overall development of society.
Education on future topics
Primary and secondary school children attended interactive education sessions on the following topics:
- Safe Internet Browsing Concepts
- Creating secure accounts and passwords for the platforms used
- Familiarization with 3D space creation environments
- Animation of 3D objects and characters
- Programming objects and characters
- General concepts of using the technical means received, sustainably and safely
Internet safety and security for children’s correct use of technology
These educational sessions provide access to state-of-the-art technologies designed to develop numeracy, creative thinking, problem-solving and adaptive learning skills in students, equipping them with the skills needed for a future-ready learning environment.
Together, Xiaomi and CONCORDIA demonstrate that through collaboration and involvement they can make a significant difference in the lives of these children.
