The rector of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Gr. T. Popa” Iași, Viorel Scripcariu, stated on Monday, during the opening of the new academic year 2024-2025, that, regardless of the specialization chosen, a career in the health field involves a considerable intellectual effort, intense work and stress.
“The world is changing rapidly, and with it the paradigms of learning are changing. And your generation, dear students, comes with new expectations and a way of thinking adapted to an era dominated by artificial intelligence, advanced technologies and unlimited access to information. With all the openness you innately have for the challenges of the future, with all the courage that youth gives you, I cannot deceive you and tell you that it will be easy. The career in the field of health, regardless of the chosen specialization, is sprinkled with a lot of intellectual effort, with a lot of work, with a lot of stress“, stated the rector Viorel Scripcariu, according to Agerpres.
The rector of UMF “Gr. T. Popa” emphasized that a career in the medical field requires passion, the vocation to heal and empathy for patients, and it is not only about prestige, financial situation or the desire to satisfy the family’s expectations.
“I don’t want to disappoint you, but if you chose this career only for the prestige, for a good financial situation or to please your parents, you will not be happy. Because the sacrifices required are greater than you can imagine now and only the passion, the vocation to heal and the empathy towards the patient are what will give you a pure feeling of professional and human fulfillment“, the rector of UMF Iasi, Viorel Scripcariu, told the students.
UMF “Gr. T. Popa” from Iași has a tradition of 145 years in medical education, offering four faculties, 11 undergraduate specializations, 8 master’s and doctoral programs in Medicine, Dental Medicine and Pharmacy.
