At the time of the theft, her home in Las Vegas was broken into and Surya was in Minnesota, where she is caring for her mother, who is seriously ill with lung, breast and sternum cancer. And Surya is dealing with her own medical issues, battling breast cancer.

When she returned home, the former figure skater discovered that her most sentimental items, her medals and trophies, were gone.

“You see, all those medals I won in the past while competing in various world and European championships are unfortunately gone. A few days ago, someone, a couple, robbed my house and stole all my valuables.

I’m calling the people of Vegas or the pawn shops. If you ever see foreign gold and silver medals for sale, please call the police immediately. Thank you!the former great figure skater wrote on Instagram, according to The Sun.

The thieves were caught on surveillance cameras

Surya Bonaly immediately informed the police about what happened. The first details about the theft were obtained from surveillance camera footage. In the images, two people can be seen entering the home: one dressed in a black hoodie, the other wearing a vest similar to those used by couriers. The thieves broke the windows and cut the WiFi connection, thus managing to disable the home’s security system.

“I think it’s for sure that it was all organized by some bad people. I realized that my medals were gone. European, world, junior, everything. Any medal I had from my skating career. I really hope and pray that no one melts those medals.”added Surya Bonaly.
