Alexandru Rogobete spoke about the rule of the first day of unpaid medical leave, stating that the prime minister did not agree with the promotion of an emergency ordinance that would have introduced exceptions to it.

“The first day of unpaid sick leave, I said from the beginning that it is a measure that also happens in other European countries, but we cannot apply equally from top to bottom and that a series of exceptions are needed”said Rogobete to Digi24.

He gave as an example cancer patients, patients undergoing radiation therapy, patients undergoing chemotherapy or those who have suffered a stroke.

“We received a big firm no from the Prime Minister. We tried an emergency ordinance that did not receive the approvals from the Government”he added.

Rogobete also spoke about the legacy he leaves behind after his mandate as Minister of Health.

“We are leaving 22 advanced construction sites for 22 new hospitals in Romania. There are 8 through PNRR, 9 through the Health Operational Program, the three severe burns centers, two of which are 97-98% implementation stage and the two regional hospitals where work is being done, namely Craiova and Iași. The difficult legacy will be told by the incoming minister, I am also waiting to hear and respond”he pointed out.

The resigned minister stated, at the same time, that he does not consider that there are any reasons for the hospitals financed by the National Rehabilitation and Resilience Plan (PNRR) not to be completed by the assumed deadline.

“From an administrative point of view things are clear, payments are up to date, I don’t leave debts, we don’t leave administrative blockages. In principle, theoretically these projects should not get blocked, and by August the seven hospitals should normally be put into use, because they are at an advanced stage, now the last details are being worked on. But life will show us how things will look”he stated.
