After a 3-0 win in the championship, Inter Milan gave another tough beating to rival Lazio Roma, in the final of the Italian Cup, this time with a score of 2-0. The match took place in Rome, on the field of Lazio.
At halftime, the Serie A champion was already leading comfortably, with 2-0. In the 14th minute, the Montenegrin Adam Marusic put the ball into his own goal at a corner and unwittingly gave the visitors the advantage.
Milan’s Argentinian captain Lautaro Martinez then doubled the lead in the 35th minute after a textbook recovery by Dutchman Denzel Dumfries, who passed to his team-mate in front of goal.
In the second half, Inter maintained their advantage with good ball movement that helped them avoid the pressure of their opponents. In places, he suffered, but not enough to tremble for victory.
The Piedmontese group had not succeeded in the event since 2010, the year of the historic treble, when, on top of that, they won the Champions League, with Jose Mourinho on the bench and Cristi Chivu on the pitch. It is the 10th domestic cup for Inter, who also have 21 titles.
Before the start of the match, both teams commemorated the Serbian Sinisa Mihajlovic, a former outstanding player of both teams, who passed away three years ago. The Serbian spent four years at Lazio (1998-2004) before moving to Inter, where he played between 2004 and 2006. Sinișa remained at Inter as assistant coach to Roberto Mancini. And Chivu’s second coach is a Serbian, Aleksandar Kolarov.
