Ciprian Ciucu: “Many expected PNL to betray once again. When Ilie Bolojan was offended, PSD offended each of us”

Ciprian Ciucu, the first vice-president of the PNL, said on Friday, May 22, at the event dedicated to the 151st anniversary of the founding of the party, that the liberals went through a difficult period, in which many expected the formation to abandon its own principles.

Ciucu spoke about the difficulty of returning to a party that was for a long time “presidential party”emphasizing that the liberals now have the opportunity to find their direction, according to News.ro.

The general mayor of the Capital stated that the PSD attacks on the leader Ilie Bolojan were perceived as an offense to all the members who supported him.

“Many expected that our party to betray once again, to betray his spirit and the leader he chose. Because when Ilie Bolojan was offended repeatedly, scheduled, assumed, by the PSD, strategically, he offended each of us as members who voted for him. And many thought that we had lost our souls and that we would betray again. What didn’t happen,” declared the first-vice-president of the PNL.

“We don’t want it to end with Ciucu, with Bolojan or with the current management team”

Ciprian Ciucu also spoke about the historical continuity of the PNL, stating that the formation “it started with Brătieni and we don’t want it to end with Ciucu, with Bolojan or with the current management team”.

“After Valeriu Stoica other management teams came and we want other management teams to come after us”, added the general mayor of the Capital.

In the second part of the speech, the first vice-president of the PNL addressed the rise of sovereignist and anti-European currents, which he says would have been unimaginable two decades ago.

Ciucu recalled his experiences in states outside the EU and emphasized that membership of the community bloc represents a historic chance:

“I see myself today, together with you, in front of a fact that I could not have imagined 15-20 years ago. That is, let’s talk about anti-Europeanizationlet’s talk about so-called sovereignist currents that want to take us out of a very select club, which we entered”.

He also said that, paradoxically, the defense of Romania’s European status ended up being “a truly conservative project,” under the conditions in which the country was “cas if… it was in the Euro ten, fifteen years ago”, if there was political will.
