The two champions who performed today in the first stage of the football Super League recorded different results. Holder of the title, the University of Craiova outclassed (4-0) UTA, in Bănie. In Galați, CFR Cluj, the team that dominated the last decade in Romanian football, could not avoid failure (1-2) against Oțel.
The match in Craiova was in danger of not being played because the Arada team showed up with equipment similar to that of the hosts. The University finally agreed to allow the visitors to play in the red-white one, and the Oltenians used the third, one in which dark blue predominated.
The match was balanced in the first part. After Gorcea intervened to save the double chance signed by Ndimba and Mekvabishvili (min. 13), the guests reacted through Abdallah’s lob (min. 29). Samuel Teles sent over the Aradians’ goal (min. 34), and Tzionis also missed the target (min. 45+3).
The second part of the match started with Craiova attacking. After shooting wide (min. 57), Baiaram served Samuel Teles, who scored with a shot from outside the box (min. 62). The hosts’ pressure intensified and Cicâldău sent the ball into the Arad goal (min. 67).
At the end (min. 81), Sava came out of the goal inspired and blocked Coman’s shot, after which the Oltenians returned to the attack. Carlos Mora passed perfectly for the goals of Baiaram (min. 86) and Elisor (min. 89). Arădeni collapsed, and Alomerovic sent into his own goal (min. 90+2).
Thanks to this clear success, the University of Craiova climbed to the first position of the ranking.
CFR Cluj was defeated in the penultimate minute of the game
In Galaţi, Oțelul managed to win (2-1) with CFR Cluj, a team that has dominated the domestic competition in recent decades. The Moldovans managed to open the scoring through Joao Lameira, who sent the ball into the visitors’ goal with a header in the 4th minute.
Oțelul kept on attacking and goalkeeper Vâlceanu was tested by Pedro Nuno and Andrezinho in the 17th minute. CFR responded through Şfaiţ, but his shot was deflected wide of the goal (min. 21). In the second half, Andrezinho thundered past the empty net, from a central position, in the 52nd minute. A huge miss for the Brazilian.
And as they say, wasted opportunities take revenge… After six minutes, Cluj restored the tie through Andrei Cordea. The Galatians scored the winning goal in the 86th minute, when Patrick received a pass from Pedro Nuno in the box and scored with a powerful shot.
