The head of AEP, Toni Greblă, confirmed for Hotnews, the reporting of an information leak, on Friday, at the National Supervisory Authority.
The leak of information was reported, on Friday, to the National Authority for the Supervision of Personal Data, confirmed Toni Greblă for HotNews.ro.
According to the quoted source, the personal numerical code of 1,300 people from the body of electoral experts was revealed for several hours on Thursday, April 11. More precisely, it is about the people who work in IT in the electoral process and deal with the verification of identity cards in the polling stations.
According to the president of AEP, from a “error“, in one county, the list was sent to another email and not the secure one.
“It was an overload of the AEP staff. We regret this incident. For an hour it was displayed and could be accessed from this email. About 30 – 35 people, some entered twice, were able to see the list. We don't know if captures were taken or if the page was just accessed“, said the head of AEP, according to the cited source, reporting that the villages were later deleted from the mail intended for the “broader public” and that an internal investigation was carried out.
Toni Greblă also claimed that “it's not a security breach, the names are public, only the personal data was not public. The CNP and domicile appeared”.
“We believe that this email was accessed by those interested in seeing if they are on the list. I don't think anyone made a catch to use the personal data. I have the obligation to notify the Authority for the Protection of Personal Data”, the head of AEP also said, justifying the workload at late hours in the context where candidates were allowed to submit their candidacies until 12 at night.
