Baccalaureate 2026 | Professor Ionela Cociorva decodes Biology subjects: The fine details that make the difference between a grade of 7 and a grade of 10

The high school graduates who opted for the subjects in the field of Biology during the profile and specialization test, held on Thursday, July 2, received subjects of different difficulties, depending on the specialization.

Ionela Cociorva, Biology teacher at the National College “IL Caragiale” from Bucharest, analyzed for “The Truth” the topics of the Anatomy and Plant Biology written tests, providing a detailed insight into the degree of difficulty and the key points that made the difference between a pass and a top grade.

Anatomy: approachable subject with only one challenge for grade 10

According to teacher Ionela Cociorva, the Anatomy test was an accessible one, with an average degree of difficulty, which did not create major obstacles for the candidates.

“The degree of difficulty was average, you could get a passing grade without problems, absolutely without problems. For the maximum grade, they had to know a few details, which made the difference between an 8-10, say”explained the teacher.

The first topic, which concerned the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system, was considered “very reasonable and approachable without raising major issues for students”.

In the second topic, the candidates had to solve a problem of genetics and one of blood transfusion, group compatibility, both following the exact model proposed by the Ministry and being practiced in class.

“The types of problems have been worked on in class, so easy, no difficulties, no fuss, no nothing. So subject 2 very, very easy, I’d say”said the teacher.

The only challenge for candidates aiming for the maximum mark appeared in the third topic, dedicated to the endocrine system.

“Here you could have made the difference between the maximum mark and less, because he gave them about the endocrine system. The endocrine system is a lot of work. The only small difficulty would have been the detailed questions about the adrenal glands, adrenal hormones. Otherwise, the mini-essay on the thyroid and its hormonal variations should not have caused them any problems”explained the teacher.

Plant Biology: Medium to hard subject with diverse requirements and fine details

In contrast, the test in Plant Biology was considered more demanding, with a medium to hard degree of difficulty, which required thorough preparation from the candidates.

“The subject was quite difficult, medium to difficult, you could get a passing grade, but for a good grade the student had to know a lot of details”explained the teacher.

The first topic covered a wide range of biology chapters, making this section a challenging one for students.

“In subject 1 they went through most of the biology chapters, so questions from kingdoms, types of bone tissue, items from division, from plants, from analyzer, from respiration, so quite difficult”explained the teacher.

In the second subject, the more difficult part consisted in the thorough knowledge of the role of the figurative elements of blood.

“The hardest part was for the students who did not thoroughly learn the role of the figurative elements of blood. The first problem, the blood problem, was typical according to the ministry model, the second, the genetics problem, was accessible. The difficulty would have been for the children to determine the genotype of the parents, but I assume that most of them managed to do this, so topic 2 was solvable”said the teacher.

Regarding the third subject, the teacher specified:

“They had to make the comparison between the prokaryotic cell and the eukaryotic cell, but speaking only of the prokaryotic cell, the maximum score could be taken here. The topic related to making statements about the cell cycle was more difficult for the students. The last topic, the kidney, approachable, reasonable. Although the topic was medium to difficult, a passing grade could be taken, but for the maximum grade they had to know very well.”

Baccalaureate 2026: What’s next, after Thursday’s test

In the case of students belonging to national minorities, they will have another written test on Friday, in their mother tongue.

The next crucial stage is the display of the initial results, scheduled for Tuesday 7 July by 12:00.

On the same day, between 14:00 and 18:00, the window opens for viewing the works and submitting appeals, a process that continues on July 8 and 9.

The Ministry of Education has established that viewing the works is strictly informative and does not involve their correction.

Minor candidates must be accompanied by a parent or legal representative at the time of viewing.

Appeals process

Submission of appeals is not conditional on viewing the papers, and viewing does not oblige the candidate to submit the appeal.

The appeals submitted by the candidates will be resolved between July 9-10, and the final results of the 2026 Baccalaureate exam will be published on July 13.

The communication of the results, regardless of the stage, is done anonymously, using the individual codes that replace the names and surnames of the candidates, according to the legal provisions on the protection of personal data.

Baccalaureate 2026. Scales and subjects for the third written test, published by the Ministry of Education

To be declared “successful”a high school graduate must cumulatively meet three essential conditions. First, they must pass all language and digital skills assessment tests, which took place between June 8 and 17. Second, they must pass all written tests and obtain at least a 5 in each of them. Finally, they must obtain at least an average of 6 in the written tests, the average being calculated as the arithmetic mean of the grades obtained in the four written tests – for students who also take the test in their mother tongue – or in the three tests, for the other candidates. Candidates who do not meet these requirements are declared “rejected” and can participate in the second session of the Baccalaureate, scheduled between July and August 2026.

In order to support the smooth conduct of the exam, the Ministry of Education and Research makes available to candidates and parents the TELVERDE line 0800801100, intended for reporting any malfunctions regarding the organization and conduct of the exam. On the days of the written tests, the line is open from 8:00am to 4:00pm, with the exception of Friday 3 July, when the operating hours were from 8:00am to 2:00pm. This measure provides an official channel of communication for any logistics or compliance issues, thus ensuring a transparent and fair process for all applicants.
