PISA (Program for International Student Assessment) represents the program for the international evaluation of students, initiated by the OECD (the organization for cooperation and economic development). The PISA study evaluates every three years the ability of 15 -year -olds to solve problems and identify solutions for situations similar to those in real life, within three fields: reading, mathematics and sciences.
In 2025 extended participation and various assessments
The study of PISA 2025 participates, this year, 10,362 students of 15 years out of 321 educational units (secondary schools, high schools or vocational schools), from the urban and rural environment, randomly selected, through a standardized procedure, unique at the international level (representative sample). Of these, 1,477 students (out of 66 educational units) learn in Hungarian (nationally representative sample for this population category)
Also, over 2000 teachers and parents of designated students participate.
Also, for the first time, the parents of the participating students will complete thematic questionnaires, offering valuable prospects on the educational environment and family support. Teachers of foreign sciences and languages will also contribute by completing specific questionnaires, facilitating a deeper understanding of the Romanian educational context.
How will the PISA evaluation be carried out?
Evaluation sessions for students take approximately 4 hours, of which:
- 15 minutes for general introduction;
- 120 – 130 minutes are allocated to administer the cognitive test, organized in 2 sessions of 60 – 65 minutes each, with a short break between them;
- 15 minutes break;
- 45 – 50 minutes to complete the student questionnaire (students express their opinions about activities carried out at school and outside the school, as well as some aspects of the quality of their lives) and the ICT questionnaire.
All evaluation tools are applied in digital format, except for the questionnaire administered to parents who will be applied in paper format.
At the level of each school unit, the administration is done in a single day (in parallel and/or successive sessions) or on consecutive days, on data established by the schools.
The entire process is standardized, according to international methodology, based on manuals for administration.
Each student participating in PISA 2025 receives a personalized diploma.
The data collected – the students ‘responses to the cognitive tests and questionnaires, as well as those of the teachers concerned – are directly loaded into the PISA 2025 study platform. Parents’ answers to questionnaires are loaded by the staff of the National Center, in a dedicated database, provided by the Consortium PISA 2025.
The results obtained are strictly confidential. No student and no school are identified in international or national reports, this study is not designed to provide individual scores to tests or questionnaires.
Why is it important to participate in Romania in the study PISA 2025?
According to the Ministry of Education, through the participation of Romania in the study of PISA 2025, including international options, it is aimed to obtain a detailed image regarding the level of fundamental acquisitions of students in terms of skills, as well as to increase the capacity of the decision authorities in Romania to adopt and implement evidence -based educational policies. The results obtained by the Romanian students are the basis for designing adequate interventions, considering that they refer not only to the level of students’ acquisitions, but also to the learning contexts. Participation in the study of PISA 2025 contributes to the correlation of Romanian education with the evolutions of the high -performance education systems.
The data collected will be the basis of the analyzes that allow the understanding of the extent to which the Romanian students are prepared for the continuation of the studies and the integration into the labor market.
For students in Romania, the study of PISA 2025 represents a challenge, an opportunity to participate in a standardized international evaluation, along with 15 -year -old students from all over the world, to solve various problems and situations in real life.
