US-Ukraine negotiations are progressing slowly, notes Defense Romania, which writes that “Witkoff & Co want to convince Ukrainians that it’s the best Peace Plan, while Putin threatens Novorossiya scenario“.
In an analysis made on Facebook by Defense Romania, on Saturday, December 6, it is shown that the negotiations in Florida, between Ukraine and the United States, have given the first results, but no real progress has yet been registered in terms of peace agreements.
“Both sides agreed that real progress towards any agreement depends on Russia’s willingness to demonstrate a real interest in lasting peace, including taking steps to de-escalate and stop the killing,” states a press release from American diplomacy.
However, despite the positive language, there was little evidence of significant progress that could signal new momentum in the negotiations, according to Bloomberg.
“The Russians dream of conquering the entire Ukrainian coast, up to the mouths of the Danube”says Defense Romania, with reference to Novorossiya (“New Russia”, “Novorusia”).
“It would mean that Russian troops will be at the border with Romania”
The cited analysis recalls that Russia controls over 19% of Ukraine, “which is one percent more than two years ago”
“Although the Russian troops are registering the fastest advance this year from 2022 onwards, Russian troops have not yet conquered the entire Donbas, where Kiev does not want to give up the belt of fortifications that protect the rest of the large cities controlled by Ukraine, namely Kramatorsk and Sloviansk. But Russia does not stop here and wants the entire Black Sea coast, up to the mouths of the Danube,” Defense Romania believes.
The Kremlin leader threatened this week that Russia could militarily isolate Ukraine from the Black Sea, “which would mean that Russia would have to control Odesa and reach the mouth of the Danube, which would mean that Russian troops would be on the border with Romania”the cited source also shows.
“The scenario of protecting Russian speakers can be applied anywhere in the Eastern Flank”
Among the main arguments used by Moscow is the one according to which the Ukrainian authorities discriminate against the Russian-speaking residents of Odesa, Kherson and Mikolaiv, the quoted source notes.
“This justification clearly shows that the scenario of protecting Russophones can be applied anywhere in the Eastern Flank – from the Baltic countries to the Republic of Moldova, and eventually there will be Russophones to protect in Romania as well. Basically, any promise made by Putin that he will not attack Europe is, in fact, another lie, similar to the assurances of the Russians before the invasion of Ukraine. Ukraine has been resisting the Russian invasion with the help of the West for four years, and the original form of the current American plan was perceived as very friendly to Russia.” explains Defense Romania.
The cited source recalls that the war in Ukraine, the bloodiest conflict in Europe since World War II, was triggered by Putin in February 2022, when he ordered Russian troops to invade the neighboring country.
