The death of the Italian motorcyclist killed by a bear on Transfăgărășan has sparked a wave of reactions in the international press, which reports at large about this incident, but also numerous comments on its irresponsibility.
The BBC notes that the 48 -year -old Italian man “ended Transfăgărășan”, stressing that Romania has the largest population of brown bears in the European Union. According to British journalists, in recent years, animals have frequently reached localities or on circulated roads, which has increased the number of deadly incidents. In this context, the Romanian authorities were forced to adopt strict regulations and invest in preventive measures to protect both humans and animals.
The Reuters Agency also presents official data provided by the Ministry of Environment, according to which, in the last two decades, the bears have killed about 30 people on the territory of Romania. At the same time, journalists notes that Parliament decided last year to double the annual hunting quota, reaching 481 copies, to control the population and eliminate specimens that have become a danger after they have become accustomed to food near people.
The Boredpanda site has published a series of reactions in the online environment, where many users criticized the gesture of the Italian tourist, considering that the unjustified proximity to the bear led not only to the loss of his life, but also to the killing of the animal by the authorities, after the incident.
“Bears are the true victims”
“What the man thought, the bear defended his chicken”
“Do not blame the bear.”
“Be a lesson for everyone:” Don’t make a selfie with a bear “”
“The animals in Disney movies are not real. Wild animals – yes”
“It is a tragedy for the bear”
“It is a common sense thing that wild animals do not play with humans.”
“They are wild animals, not for selfies !!!”
“The saddest part of this story is that the bear was shot. People simply cannot leave nature in peace.”
“I do not understand why they shot the bear. Bears do what the bears do.”
“Sorry, but why would this be a tragedy? Is it a wild animal, for the name of God! What was expected: that the adult bear is sitting there while he takes pictures of the chicken? No sympathy. People have to start using their brain, God forbid”
These are some of the comments left in the articles in the international press regarding the killing of the Italian tourist on Transfăgărăşan.

The news was also taken over by the Italian press, including Gazzetta Dello Sport, one of the most read sports daily in Italy, who reported on the circumstances of the tragedy on Transfagărășan.
Even the Lebanon press reported about the incident, signaling that Romania has between 10,000 and 13,000 brown bears, and the authorities make constant efforts to protect the locals and tourists from the mountain areas, where the bears are increasingly in contact with people.
The Independent reports that the Italian man filmed a video with the bear just before being attacked, the images being discovered later in the victim’s phone. The British publication emphasizes that the man used to get close to wild animals, behavior that would have contributed to tragedy.
