Among the most important proposed changes are the reduction by approximately 900 of the positions of school principals, but also the increase of the minimum and maximum students per class.

The minister explained that he wants to raise the minimum threshold of students so that a educational unit can operate with legal personality, from 300 to 500. In this way, smaller school units will be combined with higher ones, and the positions of directors released means money saved.

“We try to increase the number of children for a school unit to have legal personality from 300 to 500. Now the system is very fragmented many times. We have many small school units. And then if we do this, for example, we release around 900 director positions. fragmented ”, Daniel David told Digi24.

Also in the spirit of efficiency, the number of students accepted in one class could increase by two, and in exceptional cases even up to four additional students, but not over 30 students in total. The minister stressed that there are currently unjustified expensive situations:

“If you had three (extra students), you would make two classes. When you made two classes, you doubled the number of norms. And we arrive again to have a lot of expenses in the system that we cannot support.”

Daniel David also pointed out that the measures come after, in 2023, decisions were made “Near the ideal”, but which cannot be supported budget.
