Tanczos Barna states that President Nicușor Dan insisted that VAT would not be increased, but the alternative solutions discussed in the coalition were not accepted. The huge deficit, he believes, came into the pockets of pensioners, budgets and companies who participated in state investment projects.
During the show Indider broadcast by Primatv, Deputy Prime Minister Tanczos Barna, former interim minister of finance, told how the coalition negotiations on the budget-fiscal package for which the Bolojan Government is about to take responsibility on Monday, July 7.
According to him, President Nicușor Dan repeatedly asked that the value added tax (VAT) would not be increased, in order to respect his promises made in the election campaign, but the ruling coalition did not accept the alternative solutions that could have offset the lack of VAT.
“To know that President Nicuşor Dan insisted, he really asked to seek a new solution, the coalition, in order not to increase the VAT. And for two weeks, in Cotroceni, I was the one who mediated the discussion between the four parties as interim minister in Finance and I brought many alternatives.” Tanczos Barna said on Saturday.
He also mentioned that, for two weeks, he mediated the discussions between the four parties of the coalition, in Cotroceni, as interim finance minister, where he presented several variants to avoid VAT increase, but “for various reasons” they were not accepted. “
Among the alternative proposals were the introduction of the progressive tax rate, various financing schemes and measures for collecting revenues from those who are not currently contributing to the state budget.
“I brought many alternative variants that I put on the table”, he pointed out.
The Deputy Prime Minister pointed out that there are many taxpayers who do not pay the taxes in full, and in all areas there are fiscal exceptions that can be revised, mentioning that there are deductible expenses “that may be attacked” and that the future tax packages will concern these aspects, reminding the exceptions in the VAT area, of the three levels of taxation, but also the levels of taxes.
“There are exceptions regarding the payment of the tax on profit, so there are deductible expenses that can be attacked and the following packages will be attacked that will concern these things. They are also at VAT, there were those of three levels of taxation, they are also in the area of health insurance. I discussed a lot,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.
The most important thing at the moment is to have a fair system and we, the UDMR, this we asked each time: to find the balance between the need for financing, the ability of each to carry the burden and to pay taxes and taxes and a maximum withholding from the state when it makes payments. That is, this balance, if broken, as it happened 2 years ago, 3 years ago or last year, we reach 9.3% deficit ”, added the Deputy Prime Minister.
In conclusion, Tanczos Barna warned that the non -observance of this balance has led to the increase of the budget deficit.
“If this balance is broken, as it happened 2 years ago, 3 years ago or last year, we reach 9.3% deficit”, he concluded.
“The money arrived in the pocket of pensioners, budgets and companies”
Asked how it was in the situation that Romania would have a huge budget deficit, of 9.3%, Tanczos Barna replied that it was generated by the unsustainable expenses with salaries, pensions and public investments, money that, although they reached Romanians, destabilized state finances.
“The culprits: those who paid extra salaries, extra pensions, additional investments. The money did not go elsewhere, they did not leave the country. Everything that meant increased deficit has found in the pocket of the pensioners, in the pocket of the budget, in the companies that made highways or roads, the sewerage, the water, Unsustent, get out of normal parameters and become unbelievable and finance very, very expensive internationally. said the Deputy Prime Minister.
Tanczos said that in the six months in which he held the position of Minister of Public Finance, he analyzed the situation of the deficit and found that Romania needs reforms to regain the confidence of citizens and European institutions.
“We, when we came out of this deficit of 3% theoretical target for all the Member States, we enter, at one point, in an excessive deficit procedure. And we were there in a row. And the Romanian state, through the Minister of Finance, through the Premier, promised to do something. And he did something, but he did worse, that is, at 5.5%, at 5.3%, at 5.3%, at 5%. Romania. emphasized the Deputy Prime Minister.
