The Romanian Football Federation decided to change the start date of the new League 1 season, following the requests from the clubs. Although the timetable had previously been set, it was revised. Thus, the championship will start on the weekend of July 18-19, a week later than the original deadline, July 11-12.
The decision was taken within an Emergency Committee of the FRF, where other organizational aspects were also analyzed.
“In accordance with the provisions of art. 49 of the Statute of the Romanian Football Federation, the Emergency Committee, composed of Răzvan BURLEANU – FRF President, Gino IORGULESCU – FRF First Vice-President, Cristian PETREAN – FRF Vice-President, unanimously decides:
– Approves the request of the Professional League from 04.05.2026 regarding the change of the start date of the 2026/2027 Superleague season, in the sense of starting the 2026/2027 edition of the Superleague on the weekend of July 18-19, 2026, instead of July 11-12, 2026 as originally established.
– As a result of the decision from point 1 above, unanimously approves:a) The competitive calendar of the Super League, season 2026/2027 (Annex);b) Changes the date of the Romanian Supercup, which will be held on July 11, 2026, instead of July 4, 2026 as originally set.
– Approves the modification of the date of the play-off for the last place eligible for participation in the European competitions, which will take place on May 29, 2026.
– Approves the appointment of Mr. Ilie Alexe within the UEFA Development and Technical Assistance Committee (UEFA Development and Technical Assistance Committee)!“announced the FRF, on the official website.
