The authorities are launching a new public appeal, encouraging citizens to report cases of school violence or drug use by calling the emergency number 119, in order to protect students and maintain safety in educational institutions.

“If you notice cases of school violence or drug trafficking, report them to 119”it says in the new public interest message.

The number 119 is free from any landline or mobile network and is operated by the advisors of the social assistance and child protection departments, according to the site safeniascolara.ro.

Acts of verbal, physical, psychological – bullying, emotional, sexual, social, cultural, cyber violence, as well as any other activities or behaviors that may endanger the health or integrity of the primary beneficiaries and the education staff, are managed at the level of the education units. pre-university education according to the Procedure regarding the management of cases of violence against preschoolers/preschoolers/students and the staff of the educational unit, as well as other related situations, in the school environment and the suspicion of violence against children outside the school environment (approved by ministerial order no. 6.235/2023).

Cases of violence may be reported by students, parents or teachers, verbally or in writing, to any member of the school staff. Reports can be made confidentially, via messages to the notification box/other means provided by the school.

School staff protect students and parents who report acts of violence against any form of discrimination or retaliation by others.

Recommended supportive measures

  • group and/or individual counseling;
  • organizing and recommending participation in the meetings of a thematic support group;
  • organizing and recommending the participation of children involved in situations of violence in activities to develop socio-emotional skills and emotional self-regulation strategies in moments of stress;
  • referral/recommendation for psychological and psychotherapeutic intervention;
  • identifying resources for hiring a therapist to assist the child victim or perpetrator over a period of time – shadow services;
  • activities to combat hate speech, discrimination, marginalization, social norms that favor violence;
  • conflict mediation activities, through restorative approaches – except victims of gender violence;
  • transfer to another class/study formation, in the case of students who are victims of violent situations, at the request of parents/legal representatives.

The police are notified through 112 or through the dispatcher of the police subunits, so the nearest police officer will show up at the school as soon as possible.
