More and more tourists are abandoning crowded city breaks and choosing European destinations where they can combine city visits with relaxing walks through nature, on easily accessible routes from the urban center.
According to an analysis based on data from the AllTrails app, which assessed the number of trails less than 15 minutes from city centers, some of Europe’s most popular destinations offer easy access to nature right in the heart of the city.
“Hiking holidays offer flexibility and adventure, teaching travelers to enjoy the present moment and savor travel experiences. You can still see the sights, but a slower pace can provide a more satisfying experience.”, said Dave Mills, Commercial Director at Iglu Cruise.
The ranking of the most suitable European destinations for easy walks and trails is led by Berlin (Germany), followed by Vienna (Austria) and Munich (Germany), while Oslo (Norway) is in fourth place and Prague (Czech Republic) is in fifth position, according to express.
In the second part of the list are Stockholm (Sweden), Madrid (Spain), Zürich (Switzerland), Dublin (Ireland) and Paris (France), cities that complete the list of the most accessible destinations for relaxed holidays in Europe.
Berlin, ranked first, stands out for the diversity and accessibility of routes within the city and its surroundings. With hundreds of walking routes available within a short distance of the city center, the German capital has become one of the most popular destinations for tourists who want a relaxed city break where nature and city complement each other.
Among the most famous routes are the central segment of the former Berlin Wall, a route of approximately 9 miles that combines history with modern architecture, but also the Bernauer Straße area, considered one of the best preserved parts of the former border, today transformed into an open-air memorial.
For those who prefer the tranquility of nature, the Panke River Walk offers a generous walk through parks and green areas frequented especially by locals, while the Havel Heights Trail crosses the Grunewald Forest and offers wide views of the Havel River.
