What are the favorite destinations of Romanian tourists during the May 1st and Easter mini-vacations. What ANAT concluded

This year, Romanian tourists have the opportunity to enjoy a vacation of almost a week, which includes the days off between May 1 and the second day of Easter.

The Bran Moeciu area remains one of the busiest destinations in Romania

This bridging of the two holidays has led to an increase in bookings for a longer period that spans both periods. However, most tourists opted for 3-4 nights, focusing strictly on the Easter period, according to the data provided by the National Association of Romanian Travel Agencies.

Compared to the previous year, there is a significant increase in the number of tourists, depending on the destination, especially for Easter. These increases range from 20% to 60%.

“Here are some of the most sought-after tourist destinations by Romanians for the Easter and May 1 period! For rural tourism, Romanians opted for the Bran – Moieciu – Fundata area. This region is the epicenter of Romanian rural tourism. Here, tourists enjoy picturesque landscapes, authentic traditions and accommodation in rustic guesthouses. Another sought-after destination now is Bucovina. Known for its painted monasteries, Bucovina attracts tourists eager to explore the region's culture and history. In the top of preferences are picturesque destinations from Maramureș, Mărginimea Sibiului but also the Danube Delta”stated for Adevărul, Traian Bădulescu, tourism consultant and ANAT spokesperson.

As for the mountain resorts, the Romanians chose, again, in large numbers, the resorts of Predeal, Poiana Brașov, Sinaia and Arieseni. Băile Felix, Călimănesti-Căciulata, Sovata and Băile Herculane remain in the top of the balneoclimate destinations, in great demand for Romanian tourists.

This year, the resorts on the Romanian coast also registered a considerable increase. “Both May 1 and Easter, the most popular resorts, with hotels already open, are Mamaia and Mamaia Nord, Eforie Nord, Costinești and Vama Veche. They attract both young fun-seekers and families accustomed to these destinations.” added Traian Bădulescu.

Costs of May Day and Easter Mini Breaks

Most stays in Romania fall between 350 lei and 1250 lei, per person, for 3 nights. The accommodation structures offer various services, including breakfast, Easter meal and access to the spa (when applicable and if they have a wellness and spa center). An approximate calculation for an Easter mini-break is 400 and 500 euros per couple.

“Compared to last year, hotel rates have increased. Some hotels, especially the 4 and 5 star ones, chose to keep the rates, others increased them but by up to 17%. It's normal considering we still have inflation, costs for utilities, energy, food have gone up and there are also rising costs for staff employed.” Traian Bădulescu also declared.

The most sought-after foreign destinations on May 1 are those on the Bulgarian coast, at Golden Sands, Sunny Beach, Nesebar and Balcik, but also those in Greece, where during the Holidays, Romanians preferred pilgrimages to Meteora or Mount Athos.

As expected, the demand for city breaks was also increasing, especially in cities such as Athens, Rome, Istanbul or Barcelona. Most travel agencies have chosen to diversify their offer with new destinations.

“By 2023 we have more destinations for the Seniori Holidays program. In 2024 we added Malta, Cyprus, France near Switzerland and Northern Italy, Basque Country and Northern Spain, Costa del Sol, Italy – Puglia, Tuscany, Naples and the Amalfi Coast, Sicily, Valencia – Costa del Azahar stay, Barcelona and Costa Brava. From this year, there are also departures for Italy and Spain from Cluj-Napoca and Iași. There are eight-day holidays, which cost from 499 euros, per person, depending on the destination.”said Denisa Oprea, Hello Holidays marketing director.

How much does it cost to stay in exotic destinations during this period

There are not a few Romanians who choose foreign destinations, with stays that amount to almost 3 thousand euros, per person. During this period, a holiday in Malaysia and Singapore, with 8 nights' accommodation, with a flight that was on April 28, costs 1995 euros per person.

12 nights in Mexico, departing on April 30, costs from 2,720 euros per person, according to data provided by Paralela 45. Also on April 30, they fly to New York, where a 6-night stay costs 1,890 euros , each.

In South Korea, a destination increasingly promoted by Romanian travel agencies, the plane left on April 28, and for a 10-night stay Romanians paid from 2,635 euros upwards.
