Meteorologists warn that extreme weather phenomena might repeat
Unfortunately, meteorologists warn that, in recent years, in summer there is a tendency for the weather phenomena specific to this season to become extreme and more and more frequent.
“It is a special phenomenon what happened yesterday (n. Red.-Monday), but unfortunately, in recent years there is a clear tendency as for short periods the specific weather phenomena of summer to become very intense, extreme, more often and with the consequences we have seen. So, at least one summer, we have a very time in the country. Favorizers, first of all the very high temperature, were 32 degrees yesterday in the capital, a very high temperature for the beginning of June. The country, so were the arguments of issuing the General Yellow Code, for counties from the southern half of the territory ”, explained Florinela Georgescu, forecast director of ANM.
According to the specialist, the quantities of water fallen on Monday, June 9, in the capital were between 40 and 70 liters per square meter, quantities accumulated in a short interval – one hour – half and a half.
“Of course, there are very large quantities, including at the weather stations. As a result of this very large amount of water, the sewerage did not cope and that is why the streets were flooded. It is, moreover, a known thing, that the big cities are not generally prepared for such events. The channel network did not keep up with the development of the city ”, explained Florinela Georgescu.
