Preparation of elections for the Capital City Hall brings a long list of possible candidates. Among the names announced, but also transported, there are both less known characters to the general public and with notoriety. Sociologists point out that certain elements may be an advantage.

One of those who have already announced their candidacy is Dan Trifu, the vice-president of the Eco-Civica Foundation. Another independent that could be found on the short list is Vlad Gheorghe, who being among the close ones of President Nicușor Dan, could also enjoy the support of the current head of state. The former MEP even confirmed that he was considering the candidacy.
From the PSD is a possible new candidacy of Gabriele Firea, the head of the PSD Bucharest. It obtained only half of the score last year that Nicușor Dan had 47.56%, ranking second, with a score of 22.18%. The party voices also indicated the name of Robert Negoiță (Mayor of Sector 3) or Rareș Hopincă (Mayor of Sector 2). Daniel Băluță (the mayor of Sector 4) has previously expressed his intention to apply in 2028, but currently excludes such a variant.
In the case of PNL, the name of Cirprian Ciucu, the first vice-president of PNL and mayor of Sector 6, and that of former candidate Sebastian Burduja, who does not exclude a new candidacy. The mayor of Sector 6 would come to the package and with experience in administration, but also with the legitimacy obtained at the local election in June 2024, when he obtained a score of 73%. However, he has refused such a candidacy in the past.
From the USR appears the name of Cătălin Drulă, who already announces that he knows the problems of the capital. The party would opt for their own candidate, although the former colleagues in the landline publicly advised a common candidate of reformist formations.
What will count in the race for the Capital City Hall
The reputation acquired
Sociologist Remus Stefureac points out that the narrower audience of the future election gives the big parties to come with his own candidate, without worries about government, where all pro-European Mainstream formations would be found. “Especially since PNL and PSD could have theoretically very strong,” who ticked record scores at last year’s local elections. Thus, chances are that the victory will be achieved by a “A party candidate, as long as he is credible. We have at least three examples of candidates for sectors who have reconfirmed with very high scores, one even with a record score of over 70%, being PNL candidate and the other two PSD candidates (no – Robert Negoiță and Daniel Băluță)”.
The main argument will be related to the personality of the candidate, to the confidence he awakens in the eyes of Bucharest, he also points out, arguing: “It is about the ability to implement, to do the job, the credibility gained in time and less than, I know, labels. It will be a competition based on reputation, the ability to do things in Bucharest as a candidate.Remus Stefureac believes.
The support of Nicușor Dan
The one “which he will put on”, let’s say, Nicușor Dan, will have the first chance to win the elections, explains the sociologist Ionaș Vladimir. “If we look at the scores that Nicușor Dan obtained in the races for the Capital City Hall and at the scores that Nicușor Dan obtained in Bucharest, we can consider that a support for one of the candidates will mean much.”he points out.
According to him, notoriety remains an important aspect, but it will not be a defining element, because, “At least in what the great urban represents, such as Bucharest, you can win the notoriety, including on social networks. You can have a huge notoriety in a very short time. “
The most important aspect, however, is, according to sociologist Ionaș Vladimir “The image of the outside man of the mainstream political parties. A man who, to say, was raised or grew politically, socially, as you want, near Nicușor Dan. And if this support comes from Nicușor Dan, then all these strengths I think can be exactly what is needed to win these choices ”explains Ionaș Vladimir.
The element of novelty
“The fact that it is from a party does not necessarily mean that it will be repudiated by the society. No, the society is not necessarily anti-party. The society, rather, does not want the same people from the same parties. Points the sociologist Gelu Dumminică.
According to him, what I had as a signal in the last elections is that the man counts a lot, says Sunday. “If the man is of quality and will have a party resort in the back, he will certainly have the support of the population. That is, for example, a Ciucu in Bucharest, he certainly has great chances, even if he is a party member. Because he has a good structure, a good name, a good notoriety, results that speak for him and so on.”
Also, “Notoriety can be a plus and a minus”the sociologist also points out, reminiscent of the example of the candidates with problems in the back, such as the former common candidate of the PSD and the PSD for the City Hall, Cătălin Cârstoiu, to whom the formations gave up.
