After last Sunday's elections, PSD obtained more than 36% of the County Council president mandates, and PNL won more than 30%, the country being divided into two colors: red and blue.
More than 60% of the presidents of the County Council are from the PSD-PNL alliance
After the Social Democratic Party (PSD), which won 36.96% of the mandates for the presidency of the County Councils, and the National Liberal Party (PNL), which won 30.19% of the mandates, in order of the percentage of gains, there were located the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), with 9.78%, the United Right Alliance (consisting of USR, PMP and Forța Dreptei) with 7.80%, the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) with 5.34% and the SOS Party Romania, with 3.11%.
At this moment, for the election of the presidents of the county councils, the data from 34 of the 41 electoral constituencies have been centralized at the national level, so these results are still partial.
The voting rate in the country was 51.05%, the total number of valid votes cast was 6,357,570, representing 95.52% of the number of those who went to the polls on June 9, 2024.
Given that all data from nearly a week ago's vote has not yet been fully centralized, modernizing the voting system should be a priority, say those who have scrutinized how it was conducted the electoral process in the 2024 local and European parliamentary elections and who believes that Sunday's poll was not the best organized.
“I know that a lot of people do not necessarily trust technology and its security, but I think that for the next round of elections it is important to have a discussion about modernizing the voting process. Because he remained profoundly archaic. The same papers, the same ballot boxes made of cardboard, or some countries have introduced the various electronic elements in voting: either direct electronic voting, on a computer, with citizen ID – in Estonia, or electronic voting machines, or a ballot paper readable by the electronic machine and which makes reporting instant, after which verification is much easier”, says Robert Santa, sociologist, representative of the Re Think platform. An example of effective reporting of votes is the Republic of Moldova itself.
“For example, other countries, and to our shame, the Republic of Moldova is a very good example, they have electronic reporting systems extremely well put together. In the Republic of Moldova, the polls close at 9:00 p.m., and by 1:00 a.m. most of the results are already knownSanta also said.
