PNL President Nicolae Ciucă
The president of the PNL was asked in the Senate about the date of the presidential elections, given that the PSD wants them to take place in September and the PNL to organize on time, in the winter.
“It is true that when we discussed the election calendar, it was agreed, without being formalized, that the election date would be in September. After the way the local and European parliamentary elections were held and the feedback, the messages we had from the territory, primarily from the parents – it was a matter related to the fact that the education process was disrupted. Here we are in the eighth day and we still don't have the final results. There were schools that had not resumed their activity at the end of the week, as such all those who have capacity exams, baccalaureate, felt affected by this aspect. Moreover, we are going to have a two-month summer period, until September we know well what the activities are, it's vacation time“, explained Ciucă.
“We did not have time to discuss this topic concretely and in detail. Discussions will take place on Wednesday, when we will have a coalition“, he added.
The liberal leader emphasized that “if we will have a better organization at the AEP level and if we really take into account, beyond the effects on the process in education, it is one thing to be interrupted for a day or two and another to be interrupted for eight days” .
“We are not changing this date at all. It is an analysis, and that analysis must take place within the coalition. let's see what it's about. (..) I think that on Wednesday we set the date of these elections“, announced Ciucă.
Each party wants its own candidate
The President of PNL, Nicolae Ciucă, said on Monday about a possible tandem with Marcel Ciolacu as a proposal for prime minister, in the presidential elections, that they did not discuss this aspect, because each of the parties wants to have its own candidate.
Asked if the common candidate is still a viable alternative on the coalition table, Ciucă answered: “In principle, no“. The liberal leader was also asked about a tandem president Nicolae Ciucă and Marcel Ciolacu proposal for prime minister. “We did not discuss this aspect, because each of the parties wants to have its own candidate”said Ciucă, adding that it is too early to discuss a nomination for prime minister.
