Romanians will be able to digitally sign official documents. What do those who want to get rid of queues at the counters need

A measure taken years ago in many European countries will also be applied in Romania: the digital signing of official documents. A measure adopted on Tuesday by the Chamber of Deputies will help Romanians get rid of queues at the counters, according to Stirileprotv.ro.

State institutions will be obliged to accept digital signatures on official documents for the issuance of documents, according to the project adopted by the Chamber of Deputies. Such a measure will allow Romanians to digitally sign official documents – that is, remotely, without wasting hours at counters.

There are three types of electronic signatures at European level: the simple signature, an advanced one, i.e. a thorough identification of the person, and the qualified signature, which is equivalent to the holographic signature.

For the qualified signature, a whole series of documents is needed to be able to obtain it.

“You need an identification, it's not enough just to make a digital appearance. Because that's a simple signature. For an advanced signature, where you need identification, you need to take certain steps that technically ensure the validity and identification of the person and meet the requirements according to the European regulation“, said Edward Crețescu, director of ANIS, according to Stirileprotv.ro

The Ministry of Digitization will support public institutions in Romania to develop programs through which digital signatures can be made directly on the institutions' websites.

The law will apply after its promulgation by the country's president and publication in the Official Gazette.

“Think of the queues at customs”

We remind you that, last year, Radu Burnete, the executive director of the Concordia Employers' Confederation, emphasized last year that the use of electronic signatures on a large scale in the Romanian economy would bring benefits in many industries, provided that the contractual procedures will be simplified.

I'm looking at many other industries beyond the banking system that we talked about. Think of the queues at customs. Our carriers have to sign a bunch of paperwork when they go through these customs. (…) If it had an application, with one like this signature electronics, the traffic would flow quite a lot. We wanted to liberalize the energy market as much as possible. I don't know if you have tried changing your contract from one provider to another. You need to send a wheelbarrow of documents over there”, said Radu Burnete during a conference organized by the Concordia Employers' Confederation.
