The serious disease that affects more and more Romanians. A surgeon’s warning: The longer we wait, the more complicated things get!

In a post on his Facebook page, surgeon Constantin Truș, a doctor at Galati County Hospital, warns that colon cancer cases have increased. “Better safe than bad! That’s what an old proverb says, and I can guarantee you that it’s very true,” he claims.

According to doctor Constantin Truș, part of the 40 interventions/operations he performed in June 2024 “there were quite serious cases and they were due to the lack of prevention, of good security … as they say”.

“I am sounding the alarm because of the increase in cases of colon cancer, a condition I am dealing with more and more often, with patients requiring laborious surgical interventions. If you are over 50, I recommend that you have a colonoscopy once every two years. I repeat, good security passes bad danger, and if there are problems it is ideal to identify them as quickly as possible. If we detect a tumor in its early stages, we can solve it laparoscopically, minimally invasively, with the advantage of a quick recovery. The longer we wait and ignore the prevention factor, the more complicated things become, the operation becomes more complex and the recovery time increases, significantly affecting our quality of life all the while”, wrote Dr. Constantin Truș.

Consequently, the doctor claims that “a healthy, active lifestyle, without abuse of any kind, with a varied diet and as natural as possible is the best weapon in the fight against diseases!”.

“I know I’m repeating myself, but it’s important: a colonoscopy every two years, especially if you’re 50+, can save you a lot of trouble. I wish you good health!“, Dr. Constantin Truș, surgeon, also emphasized.
