Students who got grades below five in the 2024 National Assessment exam will also be able to enroll in high school, because education in Romania is compulsory up to the twelfth grade. The question is: which high school will receive them?

To which high school can students who received grade 1 enroll
The Ministry of Education announced that several students who participated in the National Assessment 2024 received grade 1. Basically, we are talking about the point received ex officio. However, as long as they have given a blank exam sheet, these students can enroll in high school without any problem. Obviously, we are not referring to top high schools or good high schools.
Where do students enroll who did not participate in the 2024 National Assessment
However, students who did not appear for the National Assessment exam or were absent from one of the tests cannot proceed with high school enrollment. For them, an option would be vocational education, i.e. vocational schools.
“There is no limitation of access to the ninth grade, as long as education is compulsory up to the twelfth grade. There was no limitation even previously, when education was compulsory up to the tenth grade. So all those who took the National Assessment or who, for various reasons, decided not to take it will continue to have guaranteed access to higher secondary education, whether it is high school or vocational school”. stated Ligia Deca, on Wednesday, in a press conference in which she announced the results of this year’s National Evaluation exam.
How to calculate the high school admission average
The high school admission average is the overall average at the National Assessment taken by the 8th grade graduates, calculated as the arithmetic mean, with two decimal places, without rounding, of the grades obtained in the tests included in the National Assessment.
In the case of vocational high schools, students will take aptitude tests, which will be taken into consideration for calculating the high school admission average.
Vocational education
Below is how the final admission average is calculated for admission to vocational high school education, artistic, sports, theological and military profiles.
- Artistic and sports profile
For the artistic profile, for the sports profile and for the philology specialization at the Waldorf high school, the final admission average is calculated as follows:
(3 APT + MA)/4 = MFA
where: APT = final grade in aptitude tests;
MA = admission average
MFA = Final Admission Average.
Theological profile
- For the theological profile, the final admission average is calculated as follows:
(APT + MA)/2 = MFA
where: APT = final grade in aptitude tests;
MA = admission average
MFA = Final Admission Average.
For the military profile, the final admission average is calculated as follows:
0.2 MA + 0.8 NP = MFA,
where: NP = grade on the test of knowledge in the subjects Romanian Language and Literature and Mathematics;
MA = admission average
MFA = Final Admission Average.
High school admission average for students who took the exam in their mother tongue
Candidates who attended secondary school courses in the mother tongue and took the 2024 National Assessment in the respective mother tongue language and literature can opt for the establishment of the average in the National Assessment without taking into account the result of the mother tongue and literature test.
