In the context where on Wednesday, during a joint conference, it was stated that the recalculation of pensions that took place this year is a historic one, Mircea Geoană emphasizes that this was absolutely necessary, in the context where Romania has the highest inflation in the EU.

“The decision to recalculate pensions is correct and necessary. However, we will have to make sure that this decision will also lead to a real increase in the purchasing power of pensioners, which is strongly eroding due to the highest inflation and the highest energy prices in the European Union”, wrote Mircea Geoană on his Facebook page.
“I hope that the current governors have learned something from the lesson of the previous financial crisis, when the large deficits and the postponement of mandatory adjustment measures made all Romanians pay three times the price of the election year. All serious economists are sounding the alarm that out-of-control deficits will require serious adjustment measures as early as 2025.”
he added.
As he wrote
the truth, The National Public Pension House recalculated all 4,609,830 pensions, establishing that 82.56% of pensioners will benefit from the increase, the remaining 17.44% remaining at the current level.
The average percentage increase of the more than 3.8 million pensions that will increase from September 1 is 26.65%, a nominal increase of 622 lei, according to the calculations of the Ministry of Labor.
As for the number of social allowance beneficiaries, it decreases after the recalculation by 90,892, the new amount resulting from contributions exceeding the value of 1,281 lei of the social allowance for retirees.
