Selected productions in the Romanian short film competition at Câmpulung Film Festival, they were analyzed by the expert jury consisting of Adrian Sitaru, Oana Hodade, Radu Gagiu and voted anonymously by the public. The Audience Award was won by Marius Miron for the film “Madre”, and the jury’s special mention went to Ștefan Marcu for “Jinx”.
Sarai Budrala’s short film, awarded at Piatra Neamț and Câmpulung Film Festival, explores a ritual of the Sânziens, that of washing with dew, which popular tradition says is meant to find out the bear and prepare young maidens for marriage. Brought to the present in the young director’s film, the ritual is reinterpreted to become relevant for the young generation, by emphasizing the liberating, purifying effect. In the case of the protagonists, the reinterpreted ritual is a catalyst towards adult life and shows how connecting with ancestors and nature lead to the consolidation of the individual’s identity.
