On the role of the Constitutional Court of Romania, on Friday, October 4, appeals regarding several candidacies for the position of President of Romania were registered. The candidacies submitted by Mircea Dan Geoană, Diana Iovanovici-Şoșoacă and Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă were challenged.

In order to resolve them within the legal term, a court session was set for Saturday, October 5. After the meeting, CCR will issue a press release.
So far, the following have registered their candidacies at the BEC: Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă (PNL), George-Nicolae Simion (AUR), Elena-Valerica Lasconi (USR), Kelemen Hunor (UDMR), Cristian Terheș (PNCR), respectively the independent candidates Călin Georgescu, Mircea-Dan Geoană and Cristian Diaconescu. Also, BEC rejected the independent candidacy of Miron Cozma.
According to the law, the Constitutional Court has the authority to resolve disputes regarding the registration or non-registration of candidates for the position of President of Romania.
The persons who can address the Court in this sense are candidates, political parties, organizations of citizens belonging to national minorities, political alliances, electoral alliances and voters.
The appeal is filed in writing at the seat of the Constitutional Court and specifically concerns the decision by which the Central Electoral Bureau admitted or rejected the registration of the candidacy or electoral signs, as the case may be.
The Constitutional Court resolves appeals within no more than two days after registration. The debates take place without notifying the parties, with the participation of the representative of the Public Ministry, based on the notification and the other documents in the file.
The deadline for submitting candidacies for the 2024 presidential elections
Presidential candidacies can be submitted until October 5, 24:00. Within 24 hours from the registration of the candidacy, at the latest on October 6, the affidavits of the candidates will be forwarded to the National Council for the Study of the Security Archives in the sense that they had or did not have the status of Security workers or its collaborators.
Within 48 hours of the registration of candidacies, at the latest on October 9, the declarations of assets and declarations of interests of the candidates will be made public.
On October 10, the nominations remain final. The candidacies and definitive electoral signs are brought to public knowledge by posting them on the website of the Central Electoral Bureau, at the headquarters of the established electoral offices, as well as through the mass media, in the order in which they were submitted.
Within 48 hours from the date of the final closing of the candidacies, October 12, the order of registration in the ballot paper takes place.
The first voting round of the presidential elections is scheduled for November 24, and the second for December 8.
