The reason why a young man with severe burns was refused by the major hospitals in the country

A 26-year-old young man from Botoșani, who suffered serious burns on several areas of his body, faces the same helplessness of the Romanian health system that we keep hearing about since the “Colectiv” tragedy: there are not enough beds for the elderly burnt

The accident happened in a moment of imprudence, while the young man was trying to feed a chainsaw with a mixture of gasoline and oil, according to antena3.ro.

After foolishly tossing away an unextinguished cigarette, he dropped the can of gasoline. The substance ignited immediately, and the young man turned into a living torch.

He managed to put out his clothes, but he suffered second and third degree burns on the back of his chest, but also on his upper and lower limbs.

Alerted by a call to 112, the medical crews that arrived at the scene stabilized him and urgently transported him to the Emergency County Hospital in Botoșani.

Only 34 beds for the great burned

The protocol of the Ministry of Health requires that patients with severe burns be transferred to specialized centers for major burns. However, due to the lack of available places, the doctors were unable to find a place to transfer him, and the young man remained under the supervision of the plastic and reconstructive surgery department in Botoșani.

Since 2014, the authorities have promised to open specialized centers for major burns in Bucharest, Timișoara and Târgu Mureș, but none of them are functional, according to Antena 3, which notes that, nationally, there are only 34 beds for major burns, divided between several hospitals in Bucharest, Iași and Timișoara.
