In international travel, an aspect that may seem insignificant has the potential to turn your dream vacation into a true odyssey.
Holiday visa in Turkey if the child’s passport is no longer valid Collage
Many Romanian tourists face all kinds of inconveniences, from flight cancellations and problems with accommodation, to lost luggage or expired travel documents. These inconveniences can affect not only vacation plans but also the budget, especially if it is necessary to obtain visas or additional taxes in order to travel.
Recently, a family of Romanians experienced firsthand the effects of carelessness related to the validity of a passport, which brought them not only a tense vacation, but also an unexpected visa fee in Antalya.
This experience underscores the importance of verifying travel documents and prompts us to explore in more detail the implications of tourist visas, as well as the options available in various countries to avoid such unpleasant situations.
The condition imposed for obtaining the visa, in case of passport expiration
A family of Romanians who went on vacation in Turkey – Antalya, flying from Frankfurt, found out at the airport in Turkey that the child’s passport did not meet the six-month validity requirement imposed by the Turkish authorities. Thus, Romanian tourists found themselves having to pay a visa fee.
We remind you that, starting from the summer, Romanians can enter Turkey only with the bulletin (identity card). The rule applies to everyone over 14, but not to children under that age.
This is, however, a fortunate case, for if the passport had been fully expired they would have been obliged to return home.
So what is the tourist visa fee, how much does it cost and under what conditions is it offered? Also, what other countries apply exemptions from the law that can turn a stressful experience into a more manageable one for tourists?
If the passport is no longer valid for another six months before a holiday in Turkey, tourists can opt to pay a visa fee of 150 euros.
However, in order to obtain this tourist visa, it is necessary that the passport has at least 60 days of validity remaining.
What is the holiday visa fee and how can it be paid?
The visa fee in Turkey is the amount that foreign nationals must pay to obtain a visa to enter the country. This varies according to nationality, type of visa applied for and length of stay. There are different types of visas, such as tourist, business or study visas, each with different validity periods depending on the purpose of the trip.
Visitors can pay the visa fee online, before travel, or at border checkpoints, usually by bank card or cash. It is recommended to use the card to avoid possible problems related to the local currency.
It is essential that tourists check the specific requirements for their desired visa before travelling, as the rules may change (on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the section “Travel Conditions”, or by contacting the diplomatic mission of the respective state in Romania). Failure to meet visa requirements may result in denial of entry into the country.
When tourists can risk being refused at the border
In general, many countries have strict rules regarding the validity of the passport upon entry, and the possibility of paying a visa fee if the passport does not meet these requirements is rare. In most cases, if the passport does not meet the validity criteria (for example, six months before expiry), travelers will not be allowed into the territory of that country.
Turkey is an exception. But for other destinations, a similar policy is unlikely to exist. Most countries apply strict rules, and if the passport is not valid as required, travelers will be refused at the border.
In Turkey, if the passport does not even meet the 60-day validity requirement, border authorities may refuse entry into the country or limit the option to pay for the visa. Therefore, it is recommended to check the validity of your passport before traveling to avoid problems at customs.
Some countries may offer temporary options in exceptional cases, but this is not a common practice and depends on each nation’s policy.
What other countries grant exemptions, exceptions to the law
Here are some examples of countries that have varying policies regarding limited validity passports, as well as visa fee payment options or other exceptions.
In Egypt, in general, the passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry into this country. However, tourists can obtain a visa on arrival, provided that the passport is valid for the entire duration of the stay.
For Indonesia, the six-month validity requirement does not always apply to children under 14, but it is important to check the specific information for each trip.
Vietnam accepts e-visa applications and the passport must be valid for the duration of the stay. If the validity is insufficient, it is possible to obtain an emergency visa, but it is recommended to check the rules before traveling.
In the US, citizens of certain countries can travel through the Visa Waiver program with a passport valid for the entire duration of their stay, as long as it does not expire during the trip.
And in Malaysia, although it is recommended that the passport is valid for at least six months, in certain situations, tourists can enter the country with a passport that is only valid for the period of their stay.
Countries such as Brazil, Mexico and Seychelles do not impose strict passport validity requirements, and tourists can enter the country with a passport valid only for the duration of their stay.
Note that visa fee payment options for under-validated passports are limited, so proper preparation will ensure a smooth journey.
