Here’s what the shortlists look like for Oscar nominations in 10 categories

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) in the United States announced Tuesday evening the short lists of proposals for 10 categories at the 97th Academy Awards.

If the shortlists for an Oscar nomination were considered the equivalent of student midterms for productions competing in the Hollywood awards season, then the film “Emilia Perez” produced by Netflix, and the musical “Wicked”produced by Universal Pictures, have just received passing grades, say journalists from Variety, quoted by Agerpres.

Production “Emilia Perez” received a total of six proposals, including in the categories “best makeup”, “best sound”, “best soundtrack”, “best international feature film” and two mentions in the category “best original song” (for the pieces “El Mal” and “Mi Camino“).

The second place in this ranking is the musical “Wicked”which received four nomination proposals.

“Gladiator II” and “Alien: Romulus”, two films produced by the Paramount studio, received three mentions each.

Preliminary votes were cast for the following 10 categories: “animated short”, “documentary feature”, “documentary short”, “international feature”, “live action short”, “makeup and hair”, “soundtrack”, “original song”, “sound” and “visual effects “.

When the votes open

Voting for nominations in all 23 categories of the Oscars will open on January 8 and close on January 12. The nominations will be announced on January 17.

The 97th Academy Awards, which will take place on March 2 in Los Angeles, will be hosted by Conan O’Brian.

Romania’s proposal for an Oscar nomination in the category “best international feature film” was the movie “Three kilometers to the end of the world” directed by Emanuel Pârvu.
