In a video shared on TikTok and YouTube on this topic, owners of the iPhone – the smartphone developed by Apple, first announced by Steve Jobs on January 9, 2007, released in June of the same year and improved from generation to generation – they confessed what they thought about the choice of this letter.

Some assumed it was a pronoun and that iPhone would actually mean “tmy phone“. Others have suggested that the “i” would come from “iintelligent“, or “indispensable”, but there were also a few who knew or intuited the meaning of the letter that raised so many questions.

There were many good guesses, notes UNILAD, which recalls that the first iPhone was released 17 years ago, and its logo was the first thing that caught the attention of those who wondered what was the matter with the apple. And then, many speculated that it could be a reference to Adam and Eve in the Bible or the apple that fell on Isaac Newton’s head, although graphic designer Rob Janoff stated that these suggestions are more of a “awesome urban legend”.

Fortunately, the late co-founder of Apple, Steve Jobs, revealed in 1998 what the “i” means. According to him, the letter is related to several words.

Steve Jobs explained that “i” means “internet, individual, training, information and inspiration” according to Reader’s Digest. The co-founder of Apple said at the time that he didn’t have the letter an official meaning”, and that it could also refer to “i” as a personal pronoun.
