The Romanian MEP calls for a general mobilization to improve the dissemination of general information about the EU and our action in Europe.
“With the transition to the new year, Romania celebrates coming of age, 18 years after joining the EU, through full integration into the Schengen area. An objective for which we have actively contributed in the last decade and which represents another milestone victory in our integration into the European Union and the desire for Romania to be a strong and influential voice in the EU. We must not forget that joining the free movement area gives us rights, but we also have obligations that we must know and respect in order for the Schengen area to function effectively.
At the same time, it is time for Romania to overcome the complex of the newer member state and develop its administrative capacity in the field, increasing the level of professionalism so that our action in Europe is more effective. But, for this, it is also necessary for the population to understand the benefits of an influential Romania in the EU. I call for a general mobilization to improve the dissemination of general information about the EU and our action in Europe”said the vice-president of the European Parliament, Victor Negrescu, in a press release.
According to the MEP, once the European comes of age, Romania must define some clear targets at the EU level, among which:
“1. Developing the negotiation capacity regarding European files of interest with the aim of positioning Romania at the center of European decisions;
2. Influencing the European budget as well as any European funding sources in order to obtain funds for the fields of interest for Romania;
3. A greater convergence of Romania with the internal market, the external trade network of the EU and the rest of the developed states in Europe in order to increase the standard of living and integration into the financial and economic mechanisms that can offer our country more opportunities for development”. also explained MEP Victor Negrescu.
The Vice-President of the European Parliament highlighted that these three objectives, complementary to entering the American Visa Waiver program and joining the OECD, constitute a guarantee for an influential Romania in the world and represent one of the solutions to counteract the anti-European rhetoric.
