The Minister of National Defense, Angel Tîlvar, is of the opinion that Marcel Ciolacu would have been a good president of Romania, but he lost the qualification in the second round of the presidential elections, and “these things happen in politics”.

“I am an optimistic person, who prefers to look to the future and less to the past (…) Marcel Ciolacu lost the qualification in the second round. These things happen, they are part of politics (…) I personally did not expect something like this. I still believe that Marcel Ciolacu is and would have been a very good president“, said Angel Tîlvăr, late Tuesday, on Antena 3, referring to the presidential elections, writes news.ro.
Asked about the cyber attack from the first round, Tîlvar explained why the Army’s intelligence service did not submit a report to CSAT.
“Those who could signal this, I mean the Intelligence Directorate of the Army, are not a national authority in the field. They, in turn, gave the other members of the information architecture in Romania, the elements that made sense on the subject. Being a departmental service, it was obvious that it addresses the authority that has national coverage, the Integrated Intelligence Office. (…) We were not called for an actual point of view in CSAT”Tîlvar said.
The Minister of Defense was also asked if we will have another cyber attack of the same magnitude during the upcoming presidential elections. Tîlvar replied that he had reason to believe that this would not happen.
“I have reason to believe, I would like, not to happen, because what we saw really created great fears, but at the same time it also generated the antibodies that Romania can have. I think it will also create greater caution on the part of those who have been targeted by these campaigns in digesting and processing what is put under their noses. I’d like to think we won’t see the scale of what it was again. I say that Romanians have the wisdom to learn from their own experiences and have a sense that they will not be fooled the second time”Tîlvar said.
The first round of the presidential elections on November 24, where Călin Georgescu won first place, was cancelled, after the declassification of several documents presented in the CSAT.
